Job Description

The Design Engineer position is be based in Farmington Hills, Michigan, and will be responsible for designing, validating, and implementing innovative and cost-effective product solutions for automotive applications in order to support the organization in prototype development through full-scale production.

Here is a glimpse of what you'll do...

  • Design Automotive related products utilizing engineering principles, applying best practices, lessons learned, tooling and innovative design techniques to achieve a reliable product at a competitive price.

  • Generate new, and modify existing models and drawings utilizing UG NX

  • Understand and apply geometric dimensioning & tolerance; conduct tolerance stack-up analyses as necessary

  • Confer with other engineering and cross-functional team members on a frequent basis to ensure all aspects of the design are coming together seamlessly

  • Generate and check necessary engineering documentation required for material procurement and quality assurance of products designed. All documentation to be controlled through engineering changes procedure

  • Maintain intimate working knowledge of program master timeline and its relation to engineering deliverables

  • Develop necessary documentation to support the successful execution of programs phase sign-offs.

  • Participate in quote development, product architecture or technology development activities

  • Participate in manufacturing prototype, pilot and mass production builds

  • Assist in coordinating builds and shipments to support the team and the customer.

  • Make recommendations on design improvements

Here is some of what you'll need (required)...

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

  • 2 - 5 years of automotive mechanical design experience

  • Expertise in CAD, CATIA V5 and UG NX needed

  • Enclosure development and mold component experience for automotive electronics

  • Proficient in MS-Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint)

  • Excellent communication (verbal & written), presentation, interpersonal, and customer service skills

  • Willing to travel 15% or more locally and occasionally internationally
