The Robotics Solution Development Engineer performs complex design including articulating arm robotics solutions and the surrounding mechatronic components (mechanical and electrical). Duties also include assisting with future product develpment concepts, testing, enhancements, and implementation. Validating solution performance through emulation/simulation, technical review meetings, and statistical calculations are required. Completes estimates for complex modules under development, and estimates own work. Performs reviews of complex customers standards specification and other documentation to determine tangible requirements. Performs presentations of complex technical findings and developments to internal and external customers. Contribute to and review customer proposals for appropriate language and accurate scope. Occasional hands-on robotic programming, testing, and validation in live robotic cells is also required.
Complete solution design of mechanical, electrical, and software solutions
Performing robotic simulations/emulations in order to validate performance
Produce AutoCad or other drawings as well as calculations in support of overall solution
Support the Design, Installation, and Commissioning of robotic random bin picking applications for order fulfilment
Support the Design, Installation, and Commissioning of robotic palletizing and de-palletizing systems
Support the Development of additional material handling applications
Additional responsibilities will include supporting and interfacing with conveying equipment throughout system design, installation, and commissioning.
Produce training material in order to document solutions and provide instruction to Solution Development
Robotic work cell design experience, must be able to:
Perform a task based risk assessment in accordance with ANSI RIA 15.06 - 2012 standards
Perform reach studies using various simulation software packages.
Perform cycle time analysis using various simulation software packages.
Communications interface design.
Technical support for robotic programming, including vision systems.
Conceptualize and estimate appropriate handling tools.
Experience in robot controller specific programming languages.
Design experience and knowledge of one or more of the following – Fanuc, ABB, Motoman, Kawasaki, etc.
Solution Design and Estimating skills:
Proficient with AutoCad and other 3D drawing tools.
Experience with developing cost estimates for comprehensive solutions, including all sub-components necessary for turn-key pricing.
Proficient in entire MS Office suite, including Excel, Word, Visio, and PowerPoint.
Familiar with quote requests to Purchasing and assisting in the evaluation of quotes from vendors.
Participate in or lead technical review meetings and price review meetings.
Keep management apprised of project status.
Conceptual design of special/non-standard devices as required in support of new solutions.
Controls / Networking skills:
Overall knowledge of PLC based process control systems used in robotic workcells.
Knowledge of PLC software such as Allen-Bradley RSLogix or Siemens Siemens Step7
Documentation / Training skills:
Description of Operation.
Support creation of training materials.
Keep abreast of latest product design and innovative developments in the general marketplace.
Robotic Simulation in one or more of the following: RobCad, ProcessSimulate, Roboguide, DELMIA, and MotoSim, Visual Components.
Graphical art programs such as Cinema 4D or 3ds Max
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or Technical Associates Degree with relevant experience or related fields.
2 to 5 years design experience in an industrial / manufacturing / robotics environment.
Must have the ability to solve complex design and solution problems.
Must have good communication skills, internally and with customers.
A detailed oriented problem solver.
