In this Production Engineering position, you will work on the Oath's Data team in Sunnyvale, CA, deploying and managing important analytics and insights applications. Our environment runs within Oath's Hadoop Grid using both Java Map/Reduce and PIG languages as well as shell scripting, Java, Python and mobile application development.

Your Day

Production Support: Troubleshoot, report, and prioritize operational issues with multiple Big Data production pipelines.

Big Data Design Engineering: Work with development team to help them create highly reliable data applications.

Automation Engineering: Improve and promote operational scalability and standardization through statistics and machine learning.

Work with new Big Data systems/features, increasing performance, automating processes, forecasting loading, designing and implementing tools for analyzing and verifying large data set issues.

Analyze Big Data job performance and efficiency to meet our ongoing business demands.

Act as a liaison between the different tiered support teams for escalating and monitoring operability/site-up issues.

Develop/enhance operations- and SLA-focused tools and dashboards.

Automate routine and mundane tasks.

Fix performance issues by working with developers, DBAs, and network engineers.

You Must Have

A BS, MS in Computer Science or related major

Knowledge of software engineering: processes, tools, programming proficiency in a language (Python or Java or PHP preferred), methods

Familiarity with object-oriented programming concepts, large-scale software architecture, networking and distributed systems, and UNIX/Linux environments

Willingness to be on call 12x7 once in four or five weeks

Experience using UNIX/Linux systems

Knowledge of Big Data, Hadoop, Pig, Hive, Hue

Knowledge of SQL and relational databases

Solid written and verbal communication skills

Excellent problem solving, multi-tasking skills

Excellent team working capability

Prior experience in technical operations and additional exposure to tool/product development.

Experience with Druid a plus

Experience with Splunk a plus

Knowledge of Chef, AWS, deployment tools a plus

Experience with mobile application development a plus

Familiarity with monitoring applications like Nagios/Netcool/Moog a plus

Knowledge of incident management tools, such as Service Now, and bug tracking tools, such as Jira, a plus
