Position requires a combination of people skills and technical skills as we assist Mayo Clinic Health System staff with Emergency Preparedness, Safety, and Regulatory Compliance. Job has a lot of variety. Travel between our six Hospitals and two dozen Clinics in Southwest Minnesota is required.

Position description

Develops, implements, and monitors Environment of Care (EOC) and Emergency Management (EM) Programs within the SWMN Mayo Clinic Health System Region. Partners with Facilities, Nursing, Security, Accreditation Coordinators, community EM response agencies and other clinical leadership to ensure EOC and EM Programs align with practice needs and are in compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, occupational, health, and safety regulations. Develops and implements EM training courses and chairs the Region's EOC/EM Coordinating Committee. Acts as consultant for local site EOC/EM Committees and supports Hospital Incident Command (HIC) crisis / emergency response efforts. Also partners with site-based safety officers and Occupational Therapy to improve patient and staff safety practices.


Experience: Minimum of five years of experience in a facility setting required. Proven past leadership experience required.
Education: Bachelor's degree in safety, security, engineering, behavioral science, business, hospital administration, public health or related field.

Additional qualifications

Special Skills: Demonstrated knowledge of the components of an Environment of Care (EOC) Program required. Knowledge of the Joint Commission accreditation policies, practices, management, and regulator law required. Demonstrated knowledge of safety-related occupational Training: as well as local, state and federal safety regulations preferred. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

License or certification

Licensure & Certification: Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) by the American Board of Certified Safety Professionals or related certification preferred. Professional Certification of MN Homeland Security and Emergency Management required within three years of employment.

Compensation Detail

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.  The minimum salary every 2 weeks is approx $3,006.40, based on a full-time position.

Schedule details

Base hours Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Occasional evening hours during times of emergency and for scheduled drills.

Weekend schedule

Occasional weekend hours during times of emergency or for scheduled drills.
