Mayo Clinic Arizona has an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant to join the Cardiovascular team with the Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) service. Hospital rounds, inpatient duties and outpatient clinic.

Position description

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates care and manages all aspects of clinical care for the high-risk VAD population in the VAD clinic as well providing triage support for VAD patient calls.

  • Works with all VAD patients through entire continuum of care, including: inpatient, outpatient, community and rehab SNF and inpatient hospice units.

  • Optimize the patients clinical, functional and psychosocial status.

  • Attend daily rounds and discharge planning, provide necessary documentation in hospital EMR

  • Consent and provide education with patients and family prior to implant.

  • Solve complex clinical and social VAD problems

  • Partners with providers to plan and implement therapeutic regimens including nursing and medical management strategies.

  • Establishes systematic follow-up for evaluation of the plan of care and reassess as necessary.

  • Assures family and patient teaching is adequate to manage the plan of care at home.

    Level IV Requirements:


  • Spend at least 50% of days based at the hospital (rounds, service, or shift work)

  • Perform specialized procedure(s)

  • Provides evals and consults with indirect supervision at least 50% of days worked

  • Spend at least 10% of days as First Assist in surgery

  • Take call assignments (Primary and/or ED)

  • Provide Weekend/Holiday Service

  • CV Surgery Specialty Practice

    Qualifications


    The ideal candidate will have three years of Heart Failure or Cardiothoracic Surgery experience. Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) experience preferred.


    Nurse Practitioner:


  • Must be a graduate of an accredited university.

  • Master of Science in Nursing required.

  • Must be licensed or eligible to practice as an CNP in the State of Arizona. Must have national certification.

    Physician Assistant:


  • Must be a graduate of an accredited university.

  • NCCPA certification required.

  • Must be licensed/certified or eligible to practice as PA in the State of Arizona.

    Additional qualifications




    • Demonstrated leadership ability.

    • Flexibility to adjust schedule to meet patient and staff needs.

    • Ability to manage time and stress effectively and adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting.

    • One year experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant required.

    • Two to five years of clinical experience preferred.

    • Cardiovascular experience is required.​

    • Congestive Heart Failure or Cardiothoracic Surgery experience is preferred.

    • Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) experience preferred.

    • Strong computer skills in an Electronic Medical Record preferred.

    • Must attest to ability to care for adolescent patients.

    • License or Certification

    • FNP needs to be obtained within the first year in the role.

    • Advanced Practice Certificate, and Prescribing and Dispensing Certificate in Arizona.

    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire.


    License or certification




    • Certification as nurse practitioner or physician assistant by an approved certifying organization.

    • FNP needs to be obtained within the first year in the role.
