Georgia-Pacific is a leader in the forest products industry. Our Brookneal facility located in Gladys, VA is a Building Products facility that makes Oriented Strand Board (OSB). This state-of-the-art facility is committed to providing a safe work environment for all of its employees. We are currently recruiting for a Press Operator Trainee role in Gladys, VA. This position is responsible for operating Press, Forming, and Blending equipment in order to produce and maintain quality of the product and meet customer expectations. Responsibilities


  • Working in team-based environment

  • Operating Press, Forming, and Blending equipment to produce and maintain quality of product and meet customer expectations

  • Sitting at control panel and operating many controls with hands and fingers

  • Communicating with other team members

  • Using hand tools and other equipment, such as air hoses and rakes

  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and environmentally sound work environment

  • Attending and participating in all training and team meetings

  • Learning new tasks (including Control Room Operation and Ground Support) and becoming proficient in performing these tasks

  • Operating mobile equipment, including but not limited to front end loader, sweeper, forklift, and manlift

  • Other duties as assigned in various work areas


Basic Qualifications


  • 18 years of age or older

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Willing and able to work twelve (12) hour rotating shifts that include weekends, holidays and overtime

  • Experience using a computer for record-keeping and documentation functions

  • Willing and able to become CPR certified and First-Aid trained

  • Willing and able to wear the necessary Personal Protection Equipment (i.e. hard hats, safety glasses, face shield, ear plugs, steel-toe boots and other PPE required by specific jobs)

  • Willing and able to work in a hot, humid, cold and noisy industrial environment

  • Willing and able to push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Willing and able to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, reaching, pushing and/or pulling for at least twelve (12) hours a day

  • Willing and able to work in high and/or confined spaces 

  • Willing and able to work in a tobacco free and minimal jewelry work environment


Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience operating mobile equipment

  • At least one (1) year of machine operating experience

  • At least three (3) years of industrial or manufacturing experience

  • Experience operating computer controlled equipment
