Job Description:

   

In a team-focused, fast-paced, demanding, and continuously evolving environment, serve as a member of the University Business Service Center, Will coordinate, monitor, and provide a range of accounting, purchasing, financial and reporting support for Executive/Academic Departments and Principal Investigators.  Maintain integrity of spreadsheets and improve or design reports as necessary.

Monitor and process financial transactions while working closely with Financial Services Lead (FSL) to ensure compliance and consistency with each transaction.  Must be able to understand and accurately apply account numbers to transactions and understand impact on financial statements.  Responsible for interpreting and advising on an array of University Policies & Procedures.  Develop and maintain valuable and productive relationships and provide exceptional customer service.  Effectively communicate and work closely with all audiences including daily interaction with all levels of University personnel. (i.e. President, Provost, Executive Vice Presidents Offices, etc.)

Required Qualifications:

Associate's degree plus 2 - 4 years of experience in accounting or finance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Coursework in Accounting, specifically Principles of Accounting and Business Math, strongly desired.


  • Must have excellent customer service skills and communication skills (written/verbal) with a broad range of people to build and maintain effective working relationships. 

  • Accuracy, attention to detail, analytical, time management, problem-solving, and organizational skills are critical.

  • Must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced, customer-oriented, team-based work environment.

  • Must be able to effectively organize, plan, and prioritize multiple competing work activities under pressure. Exercise sound judgment and decision making in accomplishing a high volume of transactions and communications that are urgent or of a sensitive or confidential nature.

  • Ability to take direction from more than one individual.

  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

  • An overall positive attitude and demonstrated professionalism at all times is essential. 

  • Must be comfortable working in an environment where change in process/procedures is the norm. 

  • Experience with standard office productivity tools  (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Access, etc.) required. 

Preferred:


  • Understanding of Cornell policies and procedures in the areas of purchasing, accounting, a nd accounts payable preferred.  

  • Knowledge of Cornell on-line systems would be helpful:  

  • Kuali Financial System (KFS), Information Delivery dashboards, e-mail/calendaring, Workday, Time Collection System, SharePoint and SpendViz.
