Job Summary:

The person hired for the position of Senior Plant Electrician/Mechanic will provide technical systems assistance for installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and modification of production equipment including electrical, electronic, robotics, pneumatic and hydraulic control systems.  They will also troubleshoot and solve complex equipment problems, development and implement maintenance procedures and techniques for a safe, reliable and efficient operation of the plant equipment and facility.  They will also be responsible for the training and development of the maintenance and production work force, and analyzing available data to improve the equipment maintenance plan.

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military environments to a 3M career.

 Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:


  • Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and improve mechanical and electrical equipment, and components and machinery including fixed and variable speed power transmission systems and reciprocating piston equipment.

  • Perform basic machining including set up and operations of equipment and portable power tools.

  • Troubleshoot, maintain and improve web handling systems.

  • Maintain and improve pumps (vacuum, hydraulic, chemical feed, centrifugal, gear, vane, auger and screw and pneumatic diaphragm pumps).

  • Perform millwright tasks including moving material, equipment and machinery using standard methods of lifting, rigging, hoisting, blocking, skidding and rolling.  Level and tram rolls.

  • Perform basic welding and fabrication tasks.

  • Perform Preventive, Predictive, and Emergency Maintenance

This Position Will Require:


  • Working 1st shift

  • Overtime

  • Weekend work

  • Working holidays as needed

  • Short notice shift coverage

Basic Qualifications: 


  • Possess or in the last 6 months of pursuing a two year technical degree or certificate program in a maintenance field. (Mechatronics, Industrial Electronics, Robotics, Automation or other mechanical/electrical program)

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience with drive controls, HMI, mechanical design and operations (hydraulics, pneumatics, gear boxes, etc.) in a private, public, government, or military environment

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience with PLC programming in a private, public, government, or military environment

  • Professional certifications

  • Military background

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Lean/Six Sigma training

  • Ability to read, speak, and understand fluent English
