IBHS is an independent, nonprofit, scientific research and communications organization supported solely by property and casualty insurers and reinsurers that conduct business in the U.S. or reinsure risks located in the U.S.
IBHS is seeking a Communications and Public Relations Specialist to help tell the story of our research and ultimately to help foster greater resilience of our homes and businesses to severe weather. This position will be housed within the IBHS Media team but will work across the organization with the broader Product Organization and with IBHS science and engineering teams.
The successful candidate will:
Write audience appropriate copy for a wide range of uses including press releases, external web, internal web, social channels, video scripts and video text and support execution of messaging as needed across all.
Together with Sr. Director, build media contacts in key growth markets as well as key trade outlets and grow coverage of FORTIFIED and IBHS initiatives and products.
Work on projects as assigned with external audience needs and communication preferences in mind and an opportunistic eye for press opportunities.
Work with the Member Relations team to help develop and deliver smart, engaging content and messaging to showcase value of IBHS membership.
Support executive communications as assigned.
The position is based in the Charlotte-metro area of the Carolina's and housed at the IBHS Research Center.
Potential candidates must demonstrate experience that can relate to one or more of these broad areas:
Exceptional written, verbal, visual and social channel communication skills to help capture and tell the IBHS story to multiple audiences including members, press, employees and consumers, among others.
The ability to listen actively and transform complex content into audience-appropriate communications.
A strong understanding of social media strategy, execution and measurement.
Writing for multiple audiences as a core competency.
An understanding of what is (and is not) news, and of the media news cycle and changing landscape. Able to think as a reporter inside IBHS to find and help the press tell our story, and to build a strong network of press contacts interested in IBHS’ issues.
Experience with video photography and editing preferred.

Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Media or related field preferred, and/or a scientific background and work experience in the field of Communications.
