Job Description:
The business functions of Webster Bank's finance department typically include planning, auditing, accounting, treasury, analytics, procurement and other administrative activities supporting corporate finance. The finance department also produces the company's financial statements.

Major Job Duties and Responsibilities:

The Finance Intern will be responsible for assisting the team with a wide range of activities some of which may include:

Treasury:
  • Work with experienced Asset-Liability Management Analysts to perform data analysis


  • Prepare presentation materials for meetings with LOBs and Product Management personnel


  • Participate in meetings with LOBs and Product Management Personnel


  • Participate in presentations to committees (Deposit pricing, loan pricing, asset/liability management)


  • Develop a general understanding of the Asset-Liability Management process


  • Assist in the forecast modeling process for a segment of the balance sheet (loans or deposits)


Procurement:
  • Review contracts for adherence to Procurement's Contract Standard and Execution Standard.


  • Provide coaching and feedback to the Line of Business on any gaps and suggestions for resolution.


  • Ensure proper filing of executed contracts and approvals for suppliers deemed business critical within the Third Party Risk Management system.


FP & A
  • Assist analysts/senior analysts in month-end reporting and analysis


  • Research peer performance perform industry benchmarking


  • Perform product performance reporting including trend analysis and progress vs. strategic goals


  • Reading and interpreting the company's financial statements and comparing to peer or industry trends


  • Identify efficiency opportunities in reporting, analysis and planning using technology or process improvements


Accounting:
  • Assist with analysis and review of monthly close documents.


  • Assist with the review of monthly accruals.


  • Assist with review of account reconciliations.


  • Assist with daily accounting activities for staff on PTO.


Enterprise Analytics
  • Data gathering and data wrangling activities


  • Assist in predictive modeling projects (using SAS and/or Python)


  • Data research and KPI procedure documentation


  • Support reporting and campaign production/analytics


Education, Experience and Skills desired:
  • Current undergraduate or graduate student; Preferred: 2-4 years college experience


  • Major in Finance, Accounting, Business or other relevant fields


  • Interest in banking/financial services industry


  • Resourceful, motivated, enthusiastic and proactive


  • Highly organized


  • Proficient in Excel and Word


  • Experience using SAS and/or Python


  • Ability to communicate effectively


  • Diligent and dependable
