Job Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated scientist to join the Biology Group within the Encoded Library Technology (ELT) team. As a member of the ELT Biology Group, you will use Next Generation Sequencing and DNA encoded chemical libraries (DELs) to identify small molecule ligands to targets of interest to support drug discovery programs across GSK.  You will have responsibility for the Next Generation Sequencing platform, the opportunity to develop expertise in additional technologies, and contribute to the continued development of the ELT platform.

The candidate will have an understanding of molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, or a closely related discipline. Hands on experience working with DNA sequencing, PCR/qPCR, recombinant proteins, and/or affinity selection is preferred; this work could be in an academic setting or the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry. The ability to work in a team environment is critical, including good communication and organizational skills, a strong desire to succeed, and the ability to deliver on time.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • MS/BS degree in biology, biochemistry, or related field

  • 1 year of experience in academic or industrial laboratory

  • Hands-on experience and/or familiarity with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) platforms (e.g. Illumina MiSeq, HiSeq, NovaSeq, etc.) as well as a desire to develop expertise and ownership of this key activity

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and hands-on experience with molecular biology and biochemistry techniques (e.g. PCR, qPCR, affinity selections, SDS-PAGE, etc.)

  • Desire to work in a lab and provide high quality experimental datasets to support a number of R&D projects

  • Ability to design, troubleshoot and execute experiments to meet deadlines

  • Experience analyzing data, interpreting results and maintaining accurate & complete laboratory records

  • Ability to work in teams, displaying excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills

  • Experience with computer software packages such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Familiarity with robotics and/or liquid handling platforms (e.g. Tecan, BioMek)

  • Familiarity with protein characterization techniques (e.g. NanoTemper, MST, SPR)

  • Previous experience in a biotech / pharmaceutical organization
