DESCRIPTION

The selected candidate shall provide design, manufacturing, testing support and leadership for the development of Restore-L spaceflight electrical harnesses.

Duties will include the initial generation and updating of harness related requirements, including meeting space charge requirements via proper grounding and shielding techniques and performing trade studies in the respective area.

Responsibilities also include managing harness inputs into a comprehensive wire connection database associated with required electrical interconnections between all Restore payload subsystems. The candidate will coordinate meetings with the Restore Subsystem leads to negotiate harness level interconnection architecture and philosophies, work with harness CAD designers to create Restore payload harness drawings and work with the harness fabrication team to verify manufacturing and harness level testing. The candidate will also coordinate with the Restore Mechanical Subsystem in understanding and designing the Restore payload harness to integrate into the Restore payload structure.

Harnesses developed may be for flight, ground support, or testing accounting for thermal, radiation, atomic oxygen, vacuum, and cleanroom environments.The candidate is required to have a strong background and knowledge of the NASA GSFC Design and Manufacturing Standard for Electrical Harnesses (GSFC-733-HARN-01) and NASA Technical Standard 8739.4 Crimping, Interconnecting Cables, Harnesses, and Wiring. Required technical expertise includes DC and RF cable design and analysis, harness fabrication fixture/mockup design, voltage drop-off and RF loss analysis, test procedure generation for insulation resistance/high-potential (IR/Hi-Pot) testing, EMI/EMC testing, and manufacturing support. Experience in harness parts procurement is also required. A four year technical degree is required; a degree in Electrical Engineering is strongly desired.
