Under the general supervision of the Cardiac Rehab Coordinator, is responsible for assisting the Physician, nurse and other licensed medical providers with direct patient care and the daily operations of the Cardiac Rehab Program.
This is a per diem position
Documents patient's vital signs, including blood pressure (BP), temperature, weight, and oxygen saturation levels.
Appropriately applies telemetry monitor leads.
Assists patients using exercise equipment for both monitored "Phase II" and unmonitored "Phase III" Cardiac Rehab sessions per Physician order.
Understands the BORG scale of rated perceived exertion and how it applies to patient exercise goals.
Maintains an accurate record of patient vital signs, Borg scale RPE's, METs and Watts on specific equipment, and exercise machine settings.
Assists nurse within scope of practice in the event of patient-related health emergency.
Has demonstrated a competency in use of glucometer for blood sugar monitoring.
Prepares the Cardiac gym with needed supplies, instruments and equipment.
Maintains cardiac monitors including battery recharging, cleaning, and proper storage.
Checks code cart daily for proper functioning, and does a complete code cart inventory monthly.
Follows established procedures and infection control guidelines for care, cleaning and sterilization of equipment.
Orders medical supplies as needed.
Disposes of used supplies properly.
Prints daily schedule for therapy staff.
Completes and processes all patient referrals.
Utilizes the computer system to schedule appointments, update demographic information, register and discharge patients, and obtain information to complete referrals and assist patients, providers and other parties as needed.
Answers multiple phone lines, and demonstrates appropriate filing and record retrieval.
Provides the patient with educational materials as requested by the provider.
Assists with instructing patients about medications, diet and exercise.
Accepts and returns patient calls using appropriate telephone etiquette.
Assumes clinical responsibilities in absence of nurse for the "Phase III" Cardiac Rehab Maintenance Program.
Relays clinical information to the Cardiac Rehab Medical Director as directed by nurse.
Assists in interview of candidates for admission to program, with close adherence to admission criteria.
Helps the nurse remain on schedule, being mindful of emergencies and unexpected interruptions.
Is flexible and able to perform multiple functions simultaneously in a fast-paced office.
Understands medical terminology and basic anatomy.
Education: Graduate of approved Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant Program.
Experience: One to two years experience in the medical field. Good interpersonal skills.
New Hampshire Licensed Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant.
