Job Summary – (Role Summary)

Direct and lead the Company’s internal and Operations communications strategies in the Americas region, including integrated employee, operations, franchisee, owner and hotel operators.  This leadership role is responsible for partnering key areas of business functions (HR, Operations, Field, IR, Finance, brands, etc.) and executive team members (e.g. RLT).  Additionally, this role will have ownership of translating regional Corporate and Operations business objectives into effective internal and operational communications and engagement strategies.  Responsible for managing internal and operation channels and continuously improving the effectiveness using measurement and insight. In addition, this role will be responsible for driving high-impact internal and Operations communications messages and campaigns that drive action and engagement.  Communications will facilitate and deliver the necessary leadership engagement activities to inform and equip managers to communicate with their teams.

  • Lead the internal and Operations communications function 

  • Set company-wide internal communications strategy 

  • Manage and build communications team

  • Provide strategic communications expertise, counsel and support to executives 

  • Develop comprehensive, company-wide executive communications strategy 

  • Oversee existing communications channels and develop consensus around future channels based on industry practices and advancements in technology 

  • Determine the most effective strategies and techniques to engage employees in Indeed’s strategy, culture and mission 

  • Align efforts with Indeed’s brand and mission


Internal Comms  Set company-wide internal communications strategy 

  • Manage and build communications team

  • Provide strategic communications expertise, counsel and support to executives 

  • Develop comprehensive, company-wide executive communications strategy 

  • Oversee existing communications channels and develop consensus around future channels based on industry practices and advancements in technology 

  • Develop strong relationships at all levels of the organization 

  • Ensure organizational initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to employees and stakeholders

  • Plan, edit and write content for a variety of internal communications mediums, such as a staff intranet, quarterly perspective magazine, regular email bulletins and town halls.

  • Draft messages or scripts from senior executives for presentation to employees in written or spoken form

  • Handle the internal communication response to crisis situations that affect organizational perception and reputation

Operations Oversee the strategic communications agenda for Hotel Operations Support key management .

  • Collaborate with the COO her/his leadership team to develop communications strategies that will broaden programmatic reach and deepen impact of overall Americas Operations organizational performance.

  • Lead planning and communication of key strategic initiatives to greater Americas Operations organization

  • Lead effective communications with Americas Operations and Hotel Operations Support on all programs and initiatives delivered via Operations Forum and COO Call.

  • Principal liaison and key decision maker with Americas Operations, coordinating, planning and staffing IHG annual meetings, various internal and external partner meetings, special projects and Hotel Operations Support functions including but not limited to New Investor Orientation.

What we need from you

Education – Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a relevant field of work or an equivalent combination of education and work related experience.

Experience – 10 + years of heading up a internal communications function and managing a global or regional communications team for a fortune 500 company

Technical Skills and Knowledge –

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of media tactics, change management and employee engagement/communications and analysis.

  • Demonstrated project management experience in organizing, planning and executing large-scale projects from conception through implementation.

  • Demonstrated experience in leading and developing people.

  • Track record of building and scaling an internal communications program at a matrixed global organization (at least 5,000 employees) 

  • Demonstrated ability to build strategies aligned with business goals and company culture 

  • Outstanding ability to capture the executive’s voice and elevate their content and presence 

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills 

  • Strong expertise and leadership skills, and aptitude to take informed, creative risks 

  • Ability to mentor and lead a team of highly capable professionals and aid in their career development  

  • Ability and agility to work in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment .

  • Confidence and poise to work closely with senior executives  

  • Ability to influence in multiple ways and build credibility quickly with key stakeholders and peers 

  • Strong sense of initiative and ability to work under pressure on multiple projects with tight deadlines 

Speaking skills:  strong speaking skills on to give presentations to staff.

Interpersonal skills:  good interpersonal and relationship-building skills in order to work with communications and cross-functionally. Possess confidence to deal with senior executives and explain communication techniques to them.

Creative skills:  creative ability to devise communication strategies Digital skills: Familiarity with information technology, especially digital and video means of communication

Key Decision Rights: This position has significant impact for determining the voice of Senior Level executives as well as developing the strategy and voice of IHG to our key constituencies – media, colleagues, franchisees and hotel operators. Manage internal and Operations communications in the Americas

Internal Key Relationships – Position requires verbal and written contact with the Company’s executives and senior management for the purpose of developing internal and Operations communication strategies; Serve as a conduit to InterContinental Hotels Group PLC on Americas corporate public relations and/or employee communications efforts.
