Job Description: Job Summary The Senior Data Governance Analyst role is key to governing the formal orchestration of people, processes and technology to enable the Bank to leverage critical data as an asset. Establishing and enforcing proper data governance and quality structure and controls ensure data driving critical bank functions such as, financial reporting, risk modeling and basic operational activities, is complete and accurate. Successful execution of the data governance and quality function mitigates risks and maximizes productivity often lost due to rework associated with using poor quality data.
This position will report to the Data Governance Manager and requires both a strong understanding of data governance policies, standards and processes as well as proven technical expertise related to data warehousing, data analytics, and data quality software. The Senior Data Governance Analyst will be responsible for administration of data governance and quality software, maintaining a corporate data dictionary, ensuring data quality standards are met and working with business partners to enforce data governance policies and procedures. The position will use previous experience to build a best-in-class data governance and quality program.
Organize, coordinate, and assist cross-functional teams in planning, development, and execution of Data Governance oriented processes at the operational level.
Engage data owners and stewards, business users, and the data management team to ensure Data Governance and Quality processes are implemented and managed, including updating and maintaining documentation, identifying and documenting critical data elements, preparing and managing business and technical metadata, defining data quality thresholds, and the identifying and triaging data integrity issues.
Measure progress against data definition and quality performance targets, following up with business representatives as necessary.
Maintain data governance processes and controls by working with project and business leaders to analyze the impact of future changes on critical data and mitigate any potential risks to data quality.
Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Complete all required compliance training. Maintain knowledge of and adhere to Flagstar's internal compliance policies and procedures. Take responsibility to keep up to date with changing regulations and policies.
Bachelor's Degree preferably in Information Systems or Business Administration plus, 5+ years of experience working with data management, data analytics, or data governance - OR - 10+ years of comparable work experience in an information governance capacity.
Proven skills with Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel and Access required
Experience with SQL strongly preferred
Experience with IBM Information Analyzer, Quality Stage, and Business Glossary / Information Governance Catalogue strongly preferred
Experience with Collibra Data Governance Center preferred
Experience in banking or mortgage industry is strongly preferred
Intermediate knowledge and understanding of data governance and data quality and how they affect business decisions
Basic knowledge of technical administration of data governance and data quality software
Ability to extract and analyze data via SQL
Ability to design and recommend governance structures and control frameworks for the ongoing management of data
Ability to perform root cause analysis and make recommendations for the remediation of data governance and quality issues
Personal initiative to find opportunities, lead change, improve processes and solve problems
Possesses outstanding judgment as well as leadership, interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work effectively in a team environment and translate business needs into functional and/or technical requirements to meet the needs of the enterprise
