Job Description:

Position can be located in Bethlehem, PA or Remote Opportunity Available


Position Summary:

This position will be responsible for managing the performance of the Long Term Disability, Short Term Disability, State Mandated Disability and Family Medical Leave blocks of business. Management will include pricing, product development support, reinsurance evaluation and experience review in addition to adhering to regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:


  • Own the development and updating of LTD, STD and SMD manual rates

  • Evaluate pricing for state and national Family Medical Leave products

  • Educate Underwriting and Field on Disability manual rates

  • Conduct annual manual rate reviews to reflect most recent experience and expectations in pricing

  • Collaborate on renewal formulas to optimize persistency and set adequate rate levels

  • Evaluate experience rating formulas and processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency

  • Assist with ongoing experience reporting and forecasting

  • Improve experience analysis to better understand how the business is operating and trending

  • Work with the product team on all product changes, including the pricing impact of new benefit options and plan designs

  • Review underwriting guidelines to ensure adequate and competitive risk control

  • Provide input to review reserve assumptions and calculations to ensure accurate claim reporting

  • Assist with the evaluation of reinsurance programs

  • Work with Claims, providing input on claims practices including potential changes

  • Facilitate rate filings through the Guardian channels and state insurance departments


Reporting Relationships:

This position reports to the Second Vice President, Group Pricing who, in turn, reports to the Vice President, Core Market and Dental Leader. This position directly manages an Actuarial Fellow and an Actuarial Assistant in Group Pricing. Functional Skills:

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • FSA (Fellow of Society of Actuaries) preferred but will consider strong ASA candidates


  • Seven or more years of actuarial experience


  • Experience with Group Insurance, particularly Disability


  • Strong Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint skills


  • Prefer data visualization experience


Travel

Travel to Bethlehem, PA office will be required as needed. Industry conference or training - SOA meetings, GUAA, etc.
