Position Summary

Project Engineer: As a Project Engineer at DRS, you will be responsible for leading engineering efforts for complex projects on time and on budget, ensuring design compliance with all project requirements. You will interface with internal and external customers to develop requirements, lead design reviews, and report status to senior management. This position will require some travel to support data collection, demos, suppliers and customer meetings


Basic Qualifications and Required Skills

  • U.S. Citizenship is required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or other technical field (e.g. Physics) with 8+ years of development experience

  • Demonstrated technical knowledge across multiple Engineering disciplines

  • Experience leading cross-discipline engineering / development teams

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to troubleshoot system issues

  • Familiarity with MIL-STD’s and DoD procurement processes and procedures

  • Experience with Systems Engineering processes and CMMI

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and experience with Microsoft Office tools

  • Must be a motivated, self-starter with ability to work in a team environment and solve problems

  • Ability to lead and provide technical oversight of development activities

Desired Skills

  • Experience in development of imaging sensors or systems

  • Experience in development of systems or sensor requiring a vacuum package

  • Experience in development of infrared Electro-Optical sensors

  • Systems engineering / requirements development experience – including the use of DOORS

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for leading all engineering efforts for a complex project or projects on time and budget

  • Responsible to review customer specifications and requirements and lead a project team to develop designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable 

  • Responsible to ensure design compliance with all project requirements

  • Responsible for providing cost, schedule, and resource need inputs for assigned projects and for tracking budget and schedule performance.

  • Act as technical interface to customer

  • Control design configuration and overall management of technical data package

  • Coordinate and lead design reviews

  • Coordinate hardware/software integration & test activities

  • Development of validation/verification methodologies

  • Lead transition of new products into production

  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with manufacturing, supply chain, program management and the customer as required

  • Lead development of technical section of proposals

  • Adhere to Enterprise development processes

  • Other duties as assigned
