The Consumer Products Corporate Engineering team is seeking an Automation Engineer to join our team in Green Bay, WI or Atlanta, GA. The successful candidate will support project teams and provide technical support across Georgia Pacific’s North America facilities. This role does require domestic travel on a regular basis.




The Consumer Products Group (CPG) Engineering team consists of nearly 200 individuals across the United States working with our 15 Tissue Towel and Napkin mills and our 8 Dixie facilities on capital project execution as well as run-ability of current assets.  We are engineers, project managers and designers focused on a quality delivery.  We partner with our mills as one team, one vision, one result.

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:


Provide electrical engineering support for capital projects, primarily for the GP Consumer Products tissue mill system. Additionally, provide technical support for Georgia-Pacific facilities manufacturing.


 This includes:

  • Providing leadership for internal and external engineering resources on capital projects

  • Developing scopes, estimates, and schedules for the electrical portions of projects

  • Developing conceptual and detailed engineering and design

  • Developing PLC and HMI programming

  • Preparing specifications and bid packages for electrical equipment and installation services

  • Participating in bid evaluation and selection

  • Providing project field engineering which includes construction, startup, and commissioning support

  • Preparing project status reports and related communications to transfer knowledge to others

  • Supporting overall project scope, estimate, schedule, and investment proposal development

  • Supporting project budgeting, spending forecasts, project scheduling, and procurement

  • Providing technical support to GP facilities involving power distribution and electrical systems

  • Applying MBM to drive long term value creation and support GP Manufacturing and Business partners

  • Using and applying judgment and critical thinking to accomplish goals, increase efficiency, and stay within project budget

  • Respectfully challenging the status quo to facilitate manufacturing improvements

·    Working closely with other team members to develop, coordinate and implement technical training for employees


  • Providing engineering support in operations area to troubleshoot, resolve technical problems, and identify root cause analysis


What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher or four (4) or more years engineering experience in lieu of a degree

  • Two (2) or more years of automation or robotic experience

  • PLC or HMI experience

  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time

  • National Electrical Code application experience


What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience in the paper industry (paper machine and converting projects)

  • Project Management/leadership experience on large capital projects

  • Experience with Motion Control

  • Vision System knowledge

  • Machine Design experience

  • Robot Programming

  • Experience with motor and motor control, VFDs, Servo Drives and safety systems of machinery
