Position Description: The Facilities Maintenance Technician will ensure proper operation and maintenance of building utilities including steam generation, ammonia refrigeration, plumbing, compressed air, hydraulics, low pressure blowers, HVAC, wastewater pre-treatment and other building systems critical to operation of the facility as well as production equipment maintenance and repair as needed



  • Preventative Maintenance on all building utilities and production line equipment as needed

  • Conduct daily rounds to monitor operation of critical building infrastructure

  • Accurately document daily rounds, PM’s completed and work hours

  • Repair deficiencies found during rounds and PM’s

  • Work closely with vendors and contractors to conduct repairs and periodic inspections

  • Work closely with EHS to document required periodic inspections of the facility, equipment and grounds

  • Change filters on HVAC equipment, air compressors, hydraulic system, product blowers, etc.

  • Work varying hours during planned projects and outages

  • All GLC employees are expected to perform any assignment or job task according to the stated safety policies and procedures.

  • All GLC employees are expected to produce our products in a manner that exceeds the quality and value expectation of our customers and consumers by adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices, Policies and Procedures outlined in our Safe Quality Food Program.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the manager.

    Required Education, Experience, and Skills

  • Technical diploma in a related field

  • 2 years of relevant utilities maintenance experience

  • 2 years of refrigeration experience

  • Understanding of manufacturing processes 

  • Ability to make decisions based on standard practices and operating procedures

  • Ability to pass a medical evaluation per OSHA requirements and work while wearing an Air Purifying Respirator

  • Advanced understanding of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and refrigeration systems

  • Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills

  • 3 years of food facilities maintenance experience or more

  • Associates degree in a technical field

  • SAP experience

  • 3 years of Ammonia refrigeration systems / PSM experience

  • Steam boiler operation experience

  • Waste Water treatment experience

  • Working Conditions

  • Repetitive work in a fast-paced environment.  Work is required in warm boiler rooms and mezzanines as well as coolers, freezers and outdoors during all times of the year

  • Outdoor work on roofs and at elevated heights in lifts is required

  • Hair nets, ear plugs/muffs, hardhats, and/or safety glasses may be required

  • Ability to frequently handle material from floor-to-waist, waist-to-shoulder, shoulder-to-overhead and pushing/pulling/carrying

  • Ability to constantly stand/walk; bend/flex/extend neck; frequently grip/reach/lift/pull with L/R hands

  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs and continuously walk around the facility throughout the entire working shift
