Job Description:

Cornell Tech is a new graduate campus of Cornell University that brings together faculty, students, business leaders and tech entrepreneurs in a catalytic environment to reinvent the way we live in the digital age.

A hallmark of Cornell Tech is a rapid pace of change and growth, which serve as opportunities to pursue excellence and improvement, not merely scale. We iterate to learn quickly from our activities and to improve our programs and ways of working. We further expect our organizational structure to continue to change, given the pace of our activities and programs and our iterative learning process. We see Cornell Tech serving as a model organization for our students, demonstrating the operations of a highly effective, dynamic, information-age organization.

Under the direction of the Director of Finance, and as a key member of the finance team, the financial specialist will actively participate in quarterly forecasting, annual budgeting, and year-end close activities across Cornell Tech, with emphasis on compensation and personnel-related costs.

The financial specialist will work closely with HR, Student Services, and other campus leadership to fully understand faculty teaching loads in order to accurately plan for and measure detailed instructional personnel budgets. This includes salary distribution and costing, summer salaries, sabbatical planning, extra compensation, visiting faculty/adjuncts and faculty external agreements such as eCornell and executive education.

The financial specialist will work closely with organizational directors to prepare timely and accurate quarterly personnel financial reports, periodic forecasts, annual budgets, and long range plans. Assists with reconciling budget/actual compensation, and prepares and executes financial transfers internally and externally, as directed.

The financial specialist will additionally be responsible for the appointment, costing, and reconciliation of all student and hourly positions, working in collaboration with the Research Administration and Student Services teams to ensure accuracy and completion. The incumbent will be responsible for tracking, reconciling and distributing tuition revenue associated with the Cornell Tech PhD programs.
