The purpose of this position is to provide assistance to Principal Investigator with on-going research. Under direction of Dr. El-kereamy, the SRA will assist with the completion of agricultural research trials. Activities include, but are not limited to field plot design, plot establishment, application of treatments such as pesticides and data collection. Conduct laboratory work in which field samples are sorted and analyzed. This function will require the use of various specialized devices to weigh, measure and record data. Provide long-term maintenance and calibration of technical laboratory equipment related to postharvest evaluations of table grapes. Provide training in the field and oversee the activities of temporary summer employees (generally Student Assistant II) that have the principal role of data collection. Provide quality control assurance that data are being collected properly and efficiently in the field and laboratory. Provide local coordination of research activities related to data collection and trial maintenance and communicate that information to the Principal Investigator of the projects. Organize and analyze data through spreadsheets and pre-planned statistical models, and present to the public if required by the PI. Communicate results to project Principal Investigators through charts and graphs. Where necessary, train the laboratory assistants in how to perform routine field activities such as grape pruning, cluster counts, soil sampling, etc. If possible, assist in the translation from English to Spanish and Spanish to English in agricultural settings and during the preparation of manuscripts and educational materials. During periodic field activities such as pruning, and harvest provide training and supervision of contracted agricultural crews that work for research project cooperators. This function will require proficiency in the Spanish Language and the ability to provide training to contracted agricultural laborers. This position will be located at the Lindcove Research and Extension Center in Exeter, CA.


Education and/or combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelors degree in Plant Biology

Excellent familiarity with managing laboratory supplies by researching equipment, ordering, shipping samples of analysis performed at other labs, working with equipment company to order, repair, or troubleshoot equipment problems, lab computers, laptops & printer maintenance.

Demonstrated 12 (twelve) months knowledge of measurement and evaluation techniques and experience of general experimental design.

Excellent familiarity with EH&S regulations, including performing safety audits, managing hazardous waste & chemical inventory with MSDS paperwork.

12(twelve) months plus experience with assembly, testing, calibration and operation of complex laboratory equipment.

Demonstrated knowledge of the use of LI-6400, Li-7000, Li-7500, & Li-8000 gas analyzers.

24 (twenty-four) to 36 ( thirty-six) months experience with soil sample preparation and basic characterization including water holding capacity, texture, organic matter, Carbon, Nitrogen, Nitrate, Nitrite, & Ammonium analyses.

Experience with preparing writing materials and methods for papers to be submitted to journal.

Complete familiarity and proficiency with personal computers. Knowledge with installing computer software & license renewals (Matlab, GIS, Erdas Imagine, LPS and SigmaPlot). Knowledge with using Google Earth Software to obtain GPS coordinates of field sites and import them to GIS .kml to layer. Knowledge with programming Campbell Scientific Dataloggers.

36(thirty-six) plus months experience independently working in a laboratory and field environment and independently preparing plant tissue and soil samples for elemental analyses. Knowledge of experimental work and of laboratory practices.


Master's degree in Plant Biology.

Coursework in plant ecophysiology.

Field experience on Santa Rosa Mountain and the UC Reserves in the nearby vicinity.
