As a Senior Accountant at ViaSat, you will be integral in supporting dynamic growth across the Company and ensuring appropriate accounting. You will be responsible for accounting for the construction of satellites, and grow into a role where you will support our global rollout of satellite ground networks. You will track and prepare commitments schedules relating to satellite subcontracts, satellite capacity and fiber network agreements, for the purpose of reporting in 10-K and 10-Q disclosures. You will analyze interest expense and in progress capital development projects, and capitalize interest expense to projects in accordance with ASC 835. You will assist international and new business model expansion efforts at the Company, and assist in developing accounting and business processes for these new businesses from scratch. You will prepare various other journal entries, quarterly schedules, account reconciliations, and analytics. You will support both our internal and external auditors with requests including audit and SOX efforts.
You will identify areas of efficiencies to improve current processes and procedures and determine scalable solutions. You will also research technical accounting issues, interpret guidance, and form an informed accounting position. You will understand our IT systems and reports, and seek out IT solutions to create efficiencies in financial reporting while maintaining accordance with SOX.
2+ years accounting or relevant experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting
Excellent understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial statements, and applying accounting theory
Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships with others within and outside the accounting team
Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
Intermediate to advanced skills in Excel
Self-motivated with ability to balance and prioritize competing demands
Desire to challenge existing practices and drive process improvement
U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Residence status required
Big 4 public accounting experience
Large public company (>$1B Revenue) experience
ERP system experience (Oracle preferred)
