Job Functions:Job Summary This position assists the HS&E coordinator with planning, establishment, implementation and maintenance of occupational health, safety and environmental programs to assure the highest possible degree of safety for employees, including environmental compliance for the company. This position will be on the production floor and capture daily issues, focusing on efficiency improvements, along with training, safety talks and investigations to any safety related issues or topics.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Investigate accidents to determine cause for use in improving preventative safety measures and safety program.
Assist with the Behavior Based Safety Program (BBS).
Assist with developing controls for identified hazards and Risk Assessments.
Assist with coordinating the implementation of controls from results of hazard analysis through Engineering, Procedural, Administrative and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Measures and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policy and procedures and recommend changes that reflect improvements to eliminate work accidents and injuries.
Performs periodic HS&E inspections to verify conformance with MTU Onsite Energy's Safety Policy, Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) and Minnesota OSHA standards, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) and United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations. Prepare reports of findings with recommendations for corrective action.
Ensure that all required Safety Training is conducted per State and Federal requirements.
Maintain Safety Data Sheets and appropriate inventories.
Assist in drafting forms, scanning, printing and copying information for distribution.
Assist department with "special projects", including distribution of information, data entry, filing and research.
Interact effectively with supervisors, company personnel, employees and the general public.
Maintain confidentiality of information.
Assist with contractor safety and job safety compliance.
Assist appropriate inspectors / auditors, including those from governmental agencies.
Responsible for following safety and environmental procedures. Procedures can be found on our company intranet.
Generates statistics, charts and graphs to monitor safety related developments and to keep Management informed.
Other tasks as assigned by manager, including "special projects".Qualifications:Qualifications: (Education, Knowledge and Skills)
Bachelor Degree with major in related field, or 4 years related experience.
Basic knowledge of industrial health and safety standards & rules.
High level of oral & written communication skills.
High level of interpersonal skills.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists, also to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks and to prioritize accordingly
Strong oral and written communication skills
Knowledge of principles and practices of personnel administration
Excellent interpersonal skills
Proficiency in or knowledge of using a variety of computer software applications, particularly Microsoft Office (i.e. Excel and Power Point).
