The Boston office seeks a Structural/Bridge Engineer with 5-10 years of experience in bridge design to join our established transportation practice. This position offers the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects with clients throughout New England (MassDOT, MBTA, Massport, RIDOT, CTDOT, and MEDOT) and the country in a dynamic team environment. In this role you will function as a lead technical design engineer and/or project manager, will supervise the work of less experienced engineers and mentor them as you help to develop their technical and inter-personal skills. Your responsibilities will include oversight/performance of structural design/analysis of bridges/structures along with the preparation of construction plans, project specifications, and quantity/cost estimates and you will remain involved during construction by answering contractor questions, reviewing submittals and monitoring construction activities. You will also work closely with other teams on multi-disciplinary projects, including roadway, traffic, rail, site, and public transit.

 

You will be mentored by our senior staff, and have the opportunity to engage with our Client Service Teams to assist with new project pursuits, including qualifications and technical proposal preparation, Scope of Service and Fee Proposal development, and networking opportunities through professional society events.

Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from a 4-yr accredited college or university.

  • Minimum of 5 years of related bridge design experience

  • Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer in MA.

  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.), and experience with engineering design packages such as AutoCAD (required), MicroStation (desirable), Staad.Pro, MathCAD, LUSAS and/or other structural analysis software systems.

  • No relocation assistance provided.

 

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Masters degree (MCE / MSCE) in Structural Engineering

  • Strong background in the development of Type Study Reports and design of bridges for MassDOT and other local transportation agencies

  • Familiarity with structural/bridge design process through application of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and MassDOT Bridge Manual code requirements.

  • Design-Build experience is a plus

  • Local candidates

 

General Duties & Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.


  1. Prepare or preferably direct the preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules and designs for bridge design projects.

  2. Receive instructions from Senior Project Managers as to the general results expected.

  3. Review project design for general compliance with engineering principles, company standards, client contract requirements, and related specifications.

  4. Receive technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.

  5. Be responsible for accuracy of engineering design and plan preparation, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.

  6. Show understanding of team management, develop project scope of work, estimate manpower needs, prepare CPM schedules and track project progress.

  7. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

  8. Perform as a staff advisor and consultant to technical specialty.

  9. Perform site inspections of existing bridges to determine conditions.

  10. Perform site inspections of bridge construction projects to evaluate conformance with contract plans and specifications.
