Title: RF Spectrum Management EngineerLocation: Greenbelt, MDClearance: Ability to Obtain Secret ClearanceCitizenship Requirement:  US (No Sponsorship Available)Req #: 2117Salary: Competitive Summary:  Craig Technologies has an opening for a RF Spectrum Management Engineer to support the Space Communication Network Services contract (SCNS) in Greenbelt, Maryland or Houston, Texas.  This position provides support to the NASA JSC Spectrum Management Office to support JSC's Mission Operations for the International Space Station in the area of frequency spectrum management and requires knowledge of satellite and terrestrial communications systems (including link budgets, general radio theory and basic orbital mechanics, satellite orbital dynamics), and knowledge of domestic and international regulations governing the use of the radio frequency spectrum. Detailed Description: 


  • Determine the performance of Radio Frequency (RF) communication links and create link budgets using analytical methods or by applying analysis and simulation tools.

  • Perform Radio Frequency interference and compatibility analysis for Space based communication systems.

  • Work with NASA projects to develop national filings required to register communications systems, which will include use of Spectrum XXI and El Cid.

  • Conduct technical studies and prepare analysis packages for coordination meetings with other agencies, including DoD, DoC, ESA, and JAXA.

  • Perform data reductions, analyze, and document results for presentation to customers.

  • Use your knowledge of digital communications, RF system analysis, FEC coding, and communications engineering.

  • Have in depth understanding of communication systems such as phase modulation, spread spectrum, signal detection, signal and interference analysis, baseband filtering, data formatting, etc.

  • Utilize your knowledge of spectrum regulations, regulatory approval process, radio frequency compatibility/interference assessment.

  • Be familiar with antennas, antenna polarization, power spectral density & spectral roll-off, Power flux density, Noise density and CCSDS standards.

  • Develop innovative technical solutions to complex problems and making recommendations for improvement

  • Be familiar with analysis software such as Matlab and Simulink.

 Position Requirements:

  • Non-negotiable requirements to be considered and hired for this position

  • Minimum Educational Requirements include  
    • Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering (or related field) from an accredited University


  • Security Clearance requirements
    • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a security clearance


  • Experience Requirements

    • 5+ years of direct engineering experience

    • 2+ years of experience with Satellite Communications Engineering or RF Engineering

    • 1+ years of experience in Spectrum Management Engineering

    • 1+ years of direct experience in the application of the ITU Radio Regulations and US regulations



  • Knowledge of digital communications, RF system analysis, FEC coding, and communications engineering

  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and working knowledge of latest Windows operating system

 Desired Experience:

  • Have a Masters Degree.

  • Knowledge of Satellite Tool Kit (STK) and/or Visualyse is a plus

  • Knowledge determining the performance of Radio Frequency (RF) communication links and creating link budgets using analytical methods or by applying analysis and simulation tools.

  • Knowledge of digital communications, RF system analysis, FEC coding, and communications engineering.

  • Knowledge of phase modulation (BPSK, QPSK, etc.), spread spectrum, signal detection, signal and interference analysis, baseband filtering, data formatting, etc.

  • Be familiar with antennas, antenna polarization, power spectral density & spectral roll-off, Power flux density, Noise density and CCSDS standards.
