Garmin is seeking a full-time User Experience Designer to join the Device Interaction team at our headquarters in the greater Kansas City area. The Device Interaction team’s mission is to provide mobile and web applications and services that are easy to use and maximize the full interaction potential of all Garmin products.

As a Senior UX Designer, you will work primarily on Garmin Connect, the fitness and wellness application that millions of Garmin customers rely on. As part of your day-to-day responsibilities, you will be involved in every aspect of the feature development process, from wireframing the next great product innovation to tweaking pixels right before launch. You will be expected to utilize your full range of user experience design, interaction design and visual design skills. A strong ability to collaborate with others is also a must. You’ll work closely with associates from various departments to research, prototype, design, present and create highly usable interaction solutions.

Other essential functions include:

  • Contributes to advanced UX/UI design on new features

  • Provides design input to product development plans and concept documents 

  • Contributes to design reviews across multiple product types

  • Exemplifies Garmin’s Mission Statement and Quality Policy and proactively works to improve Garmin’s image and culture

  • Demonstrates ability to complete well defined complex tasks

  • Provides reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems

  • Able to offer many suggestions to improve processes and can author some new procedures

  • Works under only very general direction

Qualified candidates possess a Master's degree plus 4 years relevant experience or bachelor's degree plus 5 years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.  Other requirements include:


  • Advanced knowledge of usability principles

  • Advanced ability to implement a user centered design process


  • Advanced knowledge of visual design principles

  • Knowledge of Google Material Design Guidelines and Apple Human Interface Guidelines

  • Advanced ability to design screens and UI for Web, Android and iOS using tools like Sketch, Adobe Creative Cloud, etc.


  • Ability to create prototypes using tools like InVision, Flinto, etc.

  • Ability to document and specify UX/UI solutions.

Highly Preferred Qualifications include:

  • Ability to create scenarios, journey maps, story maps, task flows, etc.

  • Ability to create functional animations using tools like InVision Studio, Flinto for Mac, After Effects, etc.


  • Ability to discover testing needs and help define test plans for usability testing

  • Ability to formulate solutions from test results


  • Ability to participate in business discovery initiatives including business research, stakeholder interviews and analytics audits

  • Ability to participate in user discovery initiatives including user research and persona creation
