Overview: Responsible for effective and efficient planning, organizing, coordinating, facilitating, and developing estimates and proposals for power generation or other heavy industrial construction. The Commercial Manager will lead the process, from start to finish, of Bid/No Bid, proposal kick-off, estimate and proposal development through collaboration with various groups. In addition, will oversee formal and ad hoc proposal and estimate development in coordination with various departments such as Operations, Estimating, Legal, Risk Management, Finance, etc. A successful commercial manager will possess excellent communication skills with high level of proficiency in business and technical writing, editing, and proofreading.
Ownership and accountability for the completion and quality of estimates and proposals.
Prepare project proposals and estimates in accordance with the scope of work, developing quantity take-offs, determining manpower, equipment, materials and subcontractor requirements
Organization and management of proposal and estimate development in close coordination with management and other contributing departments
Managing/tracking all aspects of proposal and estimate preparation, revision and submission; coordinate inputs from technical, contracts, and finance departments; and coordinate internal reviews with upper management.
Understanding of contract terms and conditions relevant to various commercial relationships.
Excellent leadership, professional writing/editing, communication, and organizational skills required
Strong ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently and work in fast-paced environment when required
Assist in obtaining quotes from material suppliers, equipment vendors and subcontractors.
Obtain clarification of questions or conflicts that affect the estimate
Obtain, review and input information from contracts, legal, finance and other support groups
Work with Operations Team on constructability reviews including development of preliminary rigging plans and crane selection
Communicate with the Operations Team during the bid cycle to validate execution strategy and develop indirect cost models on a project by project basis.
Conducts bid review meeting with Manager of Estimating, Director of Operations and/or business line management to finalize estimate, markup and strategies
Education: Bachelor' s Degree preferred in Business Administration, Construction Management, Engineering, Sales, or equivalent experience.
Experience: Minimum 10 years of combined prior proposal and estimating experience is required.
