Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Vice President of Finance, is responsible for administering, coordinating, and reviewing the performance of patient access functions across the organization, including scheduling, pre-registration, insurance verification, prior authorization, financial clearance, and registration for hospital and clinic services. This leader seeks to identify and implement new and emerging strategies to enhance the patient experience, increase efficiency, and improve customer service, identifies opportunities to work with leaders in other areas, including corporate compliance, clinical services, case management, and patient business services, to ensure compliance, increase care coordination, and improve process efficiency between departments.

Patient Access/Path Performance
1 Sets performance assessment criteria, including productivity and quality measures; creates dashboard/reports for patient access areas
2 Reviews performance reports from each facility/department, and works with patient access leadership to develop remediation strategies and set goals; provides support to facilities/departments in order to ensure goals are met
3 Ensures quality measures are met for all patient access/PATH functions and maintains productivity and efficiency across the organization
4 Develops and oversees improvement projects and standardization efforts in accordance with the budget
5 Performs market research to identify industry best practices and strategies to remain competitive

Patient Access
1 Establishes and/or revises patient access policies and procedures while focusing on continuous improvement and ensuring compliance with government regulations and organizational policies
2 Ensures awareness and compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and professional standards at the federal, state, and organizational level
3 Adheres to federal and state regulations related to the protection of patient information, such as HIPAA as well as facility specific guidelines
4 Manages relationships with vendors that provide services to support the Patient Access Department

Patient Access Operations
1 Determines appropriate staffing levels, conducts compensation analysis, and strengthens recruitment, hiring and retention practices with support from departmental managers and Human Resources
2 Develops and carries out disciplinary procedures and performance improvement plans as necessary
3 Assesses and mentors individuals in patient access leadership roles; conducts regular performance reviews and promotes ongoing communication about staff and process related issues
4 Oversees the education program for patient access staff across all areas of responsibility, including new hire orientation, competency assessments, remedial education, and ongoing education

Path Oversite
1 Oversee PATH phases to centralized scheduling and registration for physician practices and ancillary services
2 Maps out the processes involved in all of the PATH phases to ensure enhanced patient experience, increased efficiency and improved customer service
3 Conducts cost benefit analysis for technology, software and systems, process changes, and other improvement projects; presents information to Administration to gain buy-in and approval
4 Collaborates with departments across Huggins Hospital to develop improvement initiatives aimed at achieving organizational goals

Leadership
1 Budget Management: Prepares and manages department budget variances
2 Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to develop and implement operational plan
3 Fosters an environment of continuous process improvement
4 Completes all evaluations on or before the due date
5 Results oriented: is timely and comprehensive in follow-through and achievement
6 Utilizes data for timely decision-making; Exercises sound judgment

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent, Bachelors degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience



  • Experience: At least 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience related to the healthcare revenue cycle. At least 7-10 years of experience working in the revenue cycle environment, with some patient access experience required
