The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut invites applications and nominations for a nine-month Assistant Clinical Professor who will serve as an instructor in the Teacher Preparation Program and as a Professional Development Center (PDC) coordinator beginning August 2019. The successful candidate will join a dynamic department and is expected to support the successful implementation of the clinical components of the teacher education programs, including leading seminars, cultivating and sustaining relationships at clinical sites, and being an active member of the department.

The Neag School of Education (https://education.uconn.edu/) is ranked No. 30 among all graduate schools of education and No. 16 among public graduate schools of education in the nation according to U.S. News & World Report. The Neag School offers programs and courses on the main campus in Storrs and at the Hartford, Avery Point, and Waterbury campuses.
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction (EDCI) offers outstanding undergraduate and graduate programs of study for both pre-service and in-service educators. The primary focus of faculty is the preparation of leaders to serve all levels of education. EDCI is the primary department involved in the Neag School’s nationally recognized and ranked pre-service teacher education program. According to U.S. News & World Report’s annual review, three of our core teacher education programs rank among the top 25 in the U.S. The quality and success of our teacher education programs were critical factors in the decision by Carnegie Corporation of New York to select UConn as one of the 11 partner institutions for the national Teachers for a New Era Project (TNE). The Department of Curriculum and Instruction has approximately 30 full-time faculty.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will work with stakeholders to sustain and build relationships with partner schools and the teacher preparation program, addressing issues of clinical practice/teacher preparation, internship development, and supervision; and the ongoing development of schools that engage in collaborative inquiry. This includes working closely with teacher education stakeholders, both internal and external to the Neag School of Education, including instructors, university supervisors, cooperating teachers, and personnel in clinical placement sites; managing aspects of the clinical experience components of the teacher education programs with at least two PDCs; and collaboratively crafting plans for partnership activities between PDCs and the university. The successful candidate will also be an excellent seminar leader, helping prospective teachers prepare for and reflect on their clinical experiences, successfully complete their edTPA submissions, and successfully pursue action research projects. The successful candidate will also coordinate visits to schools in which seminar students are participating, advise students in courses, and attend Lead Teacher/Site Coordinator Meetings and Schools as Clinics meetings, as well as other teacher preparation, Department, and Neag School meetings.
This is a full-time, 9-month position with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2019. The successful candidate’s academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus. Faculty may be expected to teach at one of UConn’s regional campuses as part of their ordinary workload. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
