The Senior Manager for Automation and Engineering will support ongoing Lonza operations through technical assistance as it relates to Automation Systems and Manufacturing Execution Systems and Engineering management . Manage technical resources supporting operations across the Portsmouth site. Provides strategic support to the business for development and compliance. Develop and maintain strategic roadmap for Automation and Engineering, including upgrades and obsolescence.
Assist group managers, supervisors, leads with prioritization of work, resource loading and goal establishment and attainment
Conduct regular 1-on-1’s and skip level meetings with employees to check progress on work objectives and to define developmental opportunities with the organization
Assist direct reports with development of employees to help them achieve career goals
Perform performance reviews with direct reports and approve performance ratings for employees within organization structure
Develop and review merit and promotional recommendations with direct reports
Prepares budgets for and reviews CAPEX spending for projects with organizational controls for budget, scope and schedule adherence
Prepares budgets for and reviews cost center spending within organizational control
Develop and provide technical knowledge on manufacturing equipment and processes to Engineers as well as Manufacturing.
Participates in audits and inspections as an Engineering SME and supports QA in development of regulatory and customer audit responses
Provides mentorship and coaching to Engineers within department
Provides planning and oversight of strategic projects involving new processes, complex automation changes and significant process improvements including lump sum and CAR capital projects
Promotes innovation for operational methodologies and equipment to drive facility throughput and strategic direction.
Reviews and approves quality documentation such as deviation investigations, deviations, risk assessments, CAPA, action plans for regulatory CAPA, work instruction and SOP’s, specifications, and maintenance records
Responsible for departmental training audits, appropriate assignment, and adherence to training compliance guidelines
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Discipline. Preferred area of study: Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering. Master’s degree in Business or Engineering Management desired.
Extensive experience in Biopharma engineering and the design and operation of process control systems, instrumentation and MES for Bio-pharmaceutical facilities, both manufacturing and support systems.
Significant experience in Project management and coordination associated with the execution of capital projects in an industrial environment required.
Experience managing engineering and construction consultants, equipment vendors and contractors.
A solid understanding of design principles and standards within Biopharmaceutical facilities. Ability to understand and challenge design and execution concepts from outside vendors/engineers.
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, excellent communication and attention to details required.
Ability to problem solve based on logical assumptions, factual data and engineering principles.
Proficiency with OSI PI is preferred.
