Function
Gas Technology Institute (GTI), a leading research and development organization serving global energy markets, is seeking a senior-level technology development Program Manager with international industrial project development and commissioning expertise to lead a commercial-scale demonstration project for GTI’s advanced R-GAS™ gasification process in partnership with a leading Chinese coal/chemical company. The objective of the gasification demonstration program is to successfully demonstrate the commercial-scale performance and reliability of the R-GAS™ dry-feed, entrained flow, gasification technology which has been successfully piloted by GTI in Chicago, IL in a facility built and constructed with GTI’s Chinese partners in mainland China.
This position will be based out of either Woodland Hills, CA, or Chicago, IL, depending on the candidate’s preference. GTI does offer a formalized relocation program for those who are eligible. The Program Manager will report to the Senior Director R&D Programs and will be responsible for the overall operational success of the gasification demonstration project, including ensuring all cost, schedule and technical performance metrics are met or exceeded; maintaining a high-performance project team; execution of key partner agreements; ensuring a seamless working relationship with suppliers and international program partners/suppliers in China; and delivering on all program commitments. The Gasification Program Manager will be the primary GTI interface with the project stakeholders and provide overall team leadership and execution responsibility for the demonstration hardware design and development as well as the demonstration plant construction, commissioning and performance testing. In addition, the Gasification Program manager will help to develop and secure and will oversee the execution of complementary R&D and Engineering projects to advance GTI gasification technologies including the R-GAS™ and U-GAS™ platforms.
A minimum of 15 years relevant work experience including direct leadership or significant involvement in developing, constructing and commissioning advanced chemical or industrial equipment projects is required. A Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering is required and an advanced degree is preferred. The qualified candidate shall have a demonstrated capability to work under pressure and work independently on complex engineering development, equipment installation, and commissioning and test projects. An exceptional ability to communicate clearly and professionally both orally and in writing, and to work effectively as a multi-disciplinary team/project leader are essential requirements.
Frequent travel to China for 2 – 3 weeks at a time is a component of the position.
