Garmin's Avionics division has an immediate need for a full-time Electromagnetic Compliance Engineer (EMC) at our headquarters in greater Kansas City to perform testing for product and aircraft certification. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated experience performing set up and running of HIRF (high-intensity radiated field) and Lightning tests, and understanding of integrated avionics systems including I/O (input/output) system architecture and equipment functionality.
Essential functions include:
Lead a certification test to develop and write test plans for test data that will be used to show EMC, HRIF, and Lightning compliance:
TSO (Technical Standard Order) - TC (Type Certificate) and STC (Supplemental Type Certificate) requirements of complex integrated avionics systems
Perform testing in accordance with DO160 and Garmin procedures
Perform hardware and software change analysis under supervision of more experienced EMC Engineers
Develop EMC safety assessment and correlate failure modes from FHA’s (Functional Hazard Assessments) to individual equipment
Develop and write test reports that correctly and completely captures test results and includes information required to ensure the report demonstrates compliance with EMC requirements
Qualified candidates possess a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or related field AND a minimum of one-year relevant experience with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Other requirements include:
Solid understanding of Integrated Avionics systems (I/O), system architecture and equipment functionality
Knowledge of aircraft wiring types, shields, connectors, and equipment bonding methods
Familiarity with aircraft drawing systems in collaboration with avionics installation team
HIRF regulatory requirement knowledge
RF technology and electrical circuits fundamentals
Proficient with CAD and/or MS Visio
Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to work proactively and effectively with minimal supervision
