Staff Systems Engineer - Modeling and Analysis

Exciting Opportunity to join our growing Systems Engineering Department, working on next generation aircraft controls for military and commercial markets!

As a Senior Modeling and Analysis System Engineer, you will provide expertise, direction and guidance in the application of modeling and simulation to devise solutions for high performance systems. Interested applicants should be well versed with Matlab and Simulink (or similar modeling tools) and have familiarity with the use of models for problem investigations including requirement development and flow-down. Additionally, he/she must bring a demonstrated experience in guiding and solving complex problems in a collaborative team environment, preferably in an aerospace context. The successful candidate will be interested in big picture thinking and working in a multi-disciplinary environment to resolve technically-challenging problems. This position is located at our facility in Torrance, CA.

As the Staff Modeling and Analysis System Engineer, you will...

  • Provide direction and guidance in the development of high-fidelity system performance models in support of requirements definition and verification

  • Lead and drive successful system model integration, with both test setups and lower-fidelity component models

  • Advise and guide in the Performance of the functional analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies leveraging the System Model to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications

  • Create concise design reports and presentations based on results from the modeling effort and analysis results

  • Effectively communicate/facilitate these internal design requirements to the other members of the design/project team and across other development teams and Moog sites

  • Direct the identification and definition of Verification and Validation approaches for the system or subsystem

  • Key decision maker in system-and subsystem-level integration and test, including any anomaly investigations

  • Operate as a lead technical member on a team of creative, independent individuals

  • Travel Requirements: Travel to other Moog sites, customer sites (primarily US based) is required - 10-25%

Minimum Qualifications to be considered...

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline (Engineering, Math, Science, Technology)

  • 12+ years of professional experience in the field of Engineering (or 7+ years with Master's Degree; 4+ years with PhD)

  • Experience in requirements management, modeling/simulation methods and control system design

  • Project Engineering leadership experience

  • Proficiency in modeling tools, such as Matlab and Simulink

  • Due to federal contract obligations, must be a US Citizen

  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications Include...

  • Familiarity with Fault Management design and architecture development

  • Strengths in control system design (Master's Degree or PhD in Control Systems a plus)

  • Programming skills in C/C++ and Python

  • Knowledge of aircraft flight control systems a plus

  • Demonstrated technical leadership experience

  • Proven competencies in Requirements Management (DOORS), Verification and Validation Methods, and/or Integration and Test.

  • Experience working with safety-critical systems (including hardware and software)

  • Good verbal and written communication skills
