Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

The Director, Materials, is a highly visible position which will require the selected candidate to efficiently managing the purchase of raw materials for support of various Supply Chain initiatives. This role is responsible for developing sourcing strategy plans for raw materials which will include to co-lead product design initiatives, establish EOQs (Economical Order Quantity) for purchase, Quality Acceptance Criteria and Requirements, Price Negotiations including development and implementation of a Multi-Step Cost Savings Program as part of a long-term strategy. In addition to managing an assigned portfolio of Commodities, strong leadership skills are necessary as the Director will manage a team of Strategic and Tactical Procurement resources.

Specifically, this role will be responsible for:
  • Assists with the development of strategies related to use/purchase of virgin and alternate recycled materials
  • Monitors trends on virgin materials and the innovation of alternate recycled materials
  • Develops and deploys Strategic Sourcing Plans for the assigned raw material categories
  • Will implement practices and procedures consistent with the Company's Commodity Hedging policies, and these practices and procedures will be subject to review on an ongoing basis by the Price Risk Management Committee and designated committees for Diesel Fuel and Polymers
  • Leads and proactively engages in negotiating and establishing business unit contracts to accomplish cost savings projects and implement raw materials strategies
  • Provides guidance to Value Engineering (design-to-cost, manufacturability considerations, and logistics) projects to assure outcome achieves Best Commercial Terms.
  • Works closely with Technical and Supply Chain personnel to identify, qualify/ approve and establish new raw material suppliers, including virgin resin and alternate recycled materials.
  • Manages raw material supplier relationships
  • Develops cost/benefit analyses for new or revised materials to ensure positive impacts to the organization through key negotiations and other strategies with suppliers
  • Contributes as a key influencer in the qualification of alternative raw material sources
  • Cultivates constructive, working relationships with suppliers and global counterparts during the development of new materials or, as required, in the analysis and redesign of existing materials
  • Works closely with the internal customer base to define the business needs and associated requirements. Ensures that negotiated purchase costs, manufacturability and performance requirements of our raw materials meet the various business needs
  • Maintains close coordination with personnel from the supplier base, R&D/application labs, and manufacturing
  • Responsible for mentoring, trainings and development of the Strategic and Tactical Procurement resources. to accomplish Cost Savings and implement raw materials sourcing strategies

Year one critical sucess factors:
  • Quickly integrate into ADS and develop strong relationships with key company stakeholders and with the supply chain team worldwide
  • Integrate into and own key supplier relationships
  • Following the initial capability assessment, design and obtain alignment to a multi-year strategy and tactics to ensure the biggest operational impact and resources/changes required for effective execution


Professional Experience/Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be a proven procurement and business leader with public company (CPG-like organizations and converters) experience, polymer experience (HD PE & PP; commodity), and experience in a large decentralized, multi-site manufacturing organization.

The candidate will also have the following experience and competencies:

  • Demonstrated mastery of Procurement tools & Negotiation skills, including on the job buying experience
  • HD PP & PE experience including established network within polymer suppliers
  • Background in leading teams and developing talent
  • Development and utilization of metrics, KPIs, scorecards and dashboard concepts
  • Demonstrated ability to transform an organization's culture through change management, development of new processes and improvement of existing ones, and to drive outstanding team performance via goal setting and prioritization, substantiated by metrics and KPIs
  • Experience working with both large and small teams within a matrix reporting environment
  • Business financial assessment and related business case development
  • Track record of delivering significant bottom line impact through implementation of key strategies

Education:

The successful candidate will have an undergraduate degree; preferably in Business, Supply Chain management, related Operations discipline, or Engineering. An MBA or advanced degree is preferred.

C ompensation:

Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience. It will include a base salary and an annual performance bonus, and long-term incentives.
