Type: Full Time
Working under regular guidance of more experienced advising staff in the School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management, the Associate Advisor helps to advise students concerning schedules, majors, hours, probation and/ or suspension.
This position helps disseminate information regarding curriculum requirements, academic policy, and other related issues as they arise and meets regularly with assigned students to discuss academic and professional goals.
The Associate Advisor maintains academic records, reviews and evaluates transcripts, and helps with new student orientation, graduation clearance for STHM minors and certificates, graduation ceremony activities, the peer advising program, and oversees a sport and recreation management honor society.
The incumbent also provides support to College recruiting functions.
Perform other duties as assigned or participate in special projects within the Center for Student Services.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors degree and 1 year of experience in an academic setting in higher education or related field preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES: Required Skills and Abilities:
*Ability to learn, understand and interpret a highly complex curriculum.
*Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills, along with the ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of students, faculty and staff.
*Demonstrated ability to maintain a positive and objective client service approach and attitude even when confronted with difficult, highly emotional students or parents in advising and counseling situations.
*Ability to prioritize well and focus on completion of tasks and objectives while under stress or demanding work schedule.
*Knowledge and use of personal computers for internet research and database management.
*Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
*Ability to travel locally to off-site meetings and events.
* Progressive training and/or coursework towards advanceddegree.
* Experience with academic support services (i.e., peer advising programs, tutoring, etc.).
* Work experience in the sport and recreation field.
