Job Description:

Position Purpose:

The Logistics Margin Manager is a position that is responsible for improving overall Logistics margin through process management, enhancing supplier interaction and communication, following freight pricing policy, and sourcing SOP’s to implement, track, and measure these improvements.

This position is broken down into these main responsibilities:


Margin Generation – improvement of overall Logistics margin through booked freight & supplier allowance negotiation for existing collect suppliers.

Process Management – enforce workflow guidelines to minimize processing delays.

Strengthen Cross Functional Team Relationships – develop and enhance internal communication to address and correct freight margin issues.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Creates and maintains freight margin models. Responsible for data collection and accurate analysis.

  • Process management to collect and validate data inputs.

  • Establish market freight benchmarks to be used to complete freight analysis.

  • Ensures effective communication and negotiation with supplier community, including allowances and freight rates. Assist in resolving problems and issues.

  • Work cross-functionally to establish supply chain contributing factors, such as ordering patterns, product mix, industry trends & market data

  • Alignment of freight expectations with internal business partners – SM / IPAR / Supplier / Logistics Operations

  • Provides freight pricing support & component pricing education for internal and external business partners.

  • Effectively leads cross- functional teams and business partners across departments operating to achieve common Freight Margin goals

  • Understands corporate strategies and develops most cost effective supply chain solutions.

  • Leads communication with internal management and external vendor and transportation partners.

  • Facilitates continuous improvement conversations at all levels throughout the organization.

  • Performs other job duties as required


Job Requirements:


  • Education and/or Equivalent Experience are critical to this role.

  • Bachelor degree required.  MBA/Masters preferred.

Experience Required:

  • 5+ years in food distribution experience

  • 3+ years in vendor management

  • 3+ years managing and leading others

Required Knowledge:  

  • Understanding of operational model for wholesale, retail, distribution.

  • Knowledge of leadership and good management techniques (Influential and Leadership by example)

  • Proven ability to develop and lead logistical analysis and operations

  • Transportation Systems, Logistics models, Rate Negotiations, and Distribution Networks

  • Transportation / Supply Chain Industry trends

  • Expertise in logistics design, process improvements, and costing

  • Proven ability to innovate utilizing industry standard research and design methodology.

  • Must be able to work well with internal and external partners with procurement, distribution, transportation, & carriers.

  • Must have a high degree of credibility with management and able to interact effectively with associates at all levels.

  • Demonstrated strength in the area problem solving with strong analytical skills.

  • Self- motivated and must be persuasive in presenting ideas and managing their implementation.


  • Proven leadership skills, coaching and developing leaders, and associates

  • Proven negotiation and process management skills.

  • Ability to lead teams to achieve goals and stretch targets

  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and projects in a fast paced environment.

  • Ability to lead both operational and analytical direct reports

  • Lead organizational change in a dynamic & high growth environment.  Must be able to work across multiple business departments to achieve results.

  • Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and business management software like TMS, Warehouse management, demand planning.

  • Excellent written and oral communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills are required.   

  • Ability to balance short-term and long-term demands delivering on departmental targets and strategy
