Assists the Director in the clinical and administrative oversight of nursing services and the supervision of Health Services Staff.  Works with DHS to manage department operations, schedule and budget. Enforces the implementation of agency policies and procedures.  Divides work hours evenly between clinical coverage in residence or school and supervision of staff.  May be asked to work in any portion of the agency as requested by administration.  Shares infection control responsibility and administrative on call (24/ 7) responsibility with the Family Services Health Services Department Director.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Effectively supervises, evaluates, and motivates staff.

  • Deals tactfully, effectively and respectively with people both inter- and intra-departmentally. Uses effective communication skills.

  • Effectively and legally addresses employees job performance or job related problems in a manner that encourages growth and development.

  • Provides positive leadership and management to staff consistent with department and organization goals.

  • Involves staff in decision-making wherever possible, including the development and execution of goals.

  • Regularly monitors expenditures to ensure the department stays within budgetary limits. May assist in development of department budget.

  • Understands and effectively complies with employment laws and regulations. Recognizes harassment in the workplace and knows how to respond effectively to employee complaints.

  • Assists in developing, implementing, and evaluating department and agency systems and procedures based on internal policy and external regulations and evidence based practices. Makes recommendations regarding department policies and procedures; promotes and enforces policies related to maintaining a therapeutic environment, ethics, client rights, confidentiality, safety, infection control and active outcome driven client care.

  • Maintains documentation related to Health Services. Maintains database of medication related incidents/occurrences. Researches medication side effects in children and provides feedback to physicians and teams. Maintains records related to training and instruction provided.
