Tetra Tech Inc. is currently seeking a part-time Emergency Planner for our Oakland, CA operations.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual looking to start a career in emergency management. In this entry level position, you will be working with emergency management planners and project managers in helping find solutions for both public agencies and private industries. The selected candidate will primarily be responsible for supporting the development of local, state and regional emergency response and recovery plans. Activities may include emergency management planning and logistics support, hazard identification and risk assessment, research of best management practices, exercise design and control, after action reporting, supporting stakeholder meetings, drafting of plans and procedures, collecting and analyzing data, and response plan development to describe concepts of operations, mutual aid, regional coordination, emergency public information, resource management and logistics. This position will require a background check and U.S. Citizenship.

Job Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have 1-5 years of experience in emergency management or public safety. Previous consulting or emergency/disaster response experience a plus. Travel, working in client offices, oral presentations, and written report preparation will be required. Individual should be able to follow direction and learn from constructive encouragement. Excellent communication (both written and verbal) skills, as well as proficiency with MS Office applications are required. GIS data analysis and geostatistics, coding (VBA, Python, etc.), or data management skills a plus.

Good oral and written communication skills essential; ability to make presentation before both small and large audiences; can follow directions; ability to use word processing and presentation programs such as Power Point. Must be highly motivated, customer focused and work well in a team environment. Must be able to be a self-starter and solutions-orientated worker.

BS/Masters in Public Administration, Emergency Management, Communications, Political Science or related discipline or comparable experience or past emergency management experience preferred. FEMA's Professional Development Series; ICS 100, 200; IS 230, 235, 700, 775, 800; SEMS (G 606) essential. Additional emergency management and/or law enforcement or firefighting or EMS training a plus. 40-hour OSHA or related training, or demonstrated first responder (environmental emergency response) experience a plus.

Ability to drive a vehicle (car); able to transport self to various client locations; ability to present before groups in different venues; able to lift medium size object such as projectors, equipment, boxes, and storage bins and move to alternate locations; ability to move around such places as an Emergency Operation/Command Centers with ease.

Most work would be performed in an office or conference or assembly type room. Occasional travel to client sites could be required. There would be limited expose to extreme weather conditions. However, under emergency and/or disaster conditions individual might be asked to assist a client in situations where conditions are less than optimal such as when tensions and anxiety may be elevated.

Must be able to drive a motor vehicle and pass a motor vehicle records check.

This position requires you to be a U.S. citizen and to pass a background check.
