Two Six Labs is seeking an experienced Associate Research Director to lead its expanding Mobile & Embedded Systems research and development (R&D) team, driving continued growth of its portfolio of advanced R&D programs. Experience with the full software development lifecycle, from concept to prototype and production is a must. This technically oriented position has three key focus areas:

  • Technical leadership of the group to include executing as an active contributor,

  • Management and growth of the Mobile & Embedded System team of engineers,

  • Identifying, capturing, and transitioning new advanced R&D programs


  • Technical oversight of the Mobile & Embedded Systems team's portfolio of R&D projects

  • Line management of the Mobile & Embedded Systems team members and identifying/hiring new team members

  • Technical marketing of Two Six Labs Mobile & Embedded Systems team's services and capabilities to new and existing Government R&D clients

  • Identifying and leading the capture of new R&D programs

  • Leading and participating in proposal generation and delivery

  • Defining, revising, and balancing requirements across multiple stakeholders

  • Logistics coordination across multiple locations and teams

  • Deployment of cutting-edge technologies to end user locations


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics with a concentration in operating systems, embedded systems, or a related technical domain

  • Ten or more years of professional experience in a similar role

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance

  • Cybersecurity domain experience and knowledge

The successful candidate will have:

  • A strong foundational knowledge of the Android operating system and/or Linux kernel, embedded systems, network stacks, and wireless protocols

  • Past performance as a Principal Investigator on fast-paced, innovation-driven, advanced technology R&D projects, ideally for Government clients

  • Experience serving as a line manager for a team of scientists and engineers

  • A proven track record of capturing Government R&D contracts/programs

Nice to haves:

  • An advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, or related technical domain

  • Experience building and modifying Android or other mobile operating systems

  • Experience developing security solutions and products

  • Experience leading teams in a rapid prototype environment demonstrating scalable architectures

  • Experience with distributed teams that span geographic locations, functional teams, and organizations

  • Proven experience leading a rapidly growing team

  • An active security clearance
