Job Description:

Essential Job Duties

  1. Conducts research and development activities supporting the design and fabrication of new or the redesign and retrofitting/reconstruction of existing food and confectionary manufacturing equipment.

  2. Ensures research and development activities are planned and executed to meet stated business objectives by established deadlines and that projects remain within specified budgets.

  3. Creates designs that integrate mechanical, electrical, and computer systems to improve manufacturing efficiency and automation to increase production capacity.

  4. Applies working knowledge of pneumatics and power transmission in designs to enhance effectiveness of production lines.

  5. Develops technical renderings and documentation of manufacturing equipment and assists in creating standard operating procedures with end users.

  6. Performs tests, collects data, writes reports, and shares outcomes to assure manufacturing equipment meets required specifications for production, safe and sanitary operation, and industry standards and that the results are consistent and sustainable.

  7. Engineers solutions to production problems and innovates enhancements to safe and efficient material handling and manufacturing processes.

  8. Provides applied technical expertise on instruments, equipment, machinery, and systems in support of business planning and daily production operations.



Bachelor of Master of Science degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical, or related)

Six Sigma or similar certification preferred


General: 3 years of experience in research and development in manufacturing operations

Environment: Industrial automation, food, confection, nutritional production preferred

Design: Precise technical plans, renderings, and models of industrial machinery

Systems: Integrated electrical, mechanical, and information systems, robotics preferred

Additional: Applied knowledge of pneumatics and power transmission in manufacturing equipment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to effectively manage multiple projects, adjust priorities, and redirect efforts to meet changing business needs in a dynamic environment

Ability to work autonomously, with engineering colleagues, or on a cross-functional team, either as an individual contributor or leader

Experience working in environments that emphasize innovation, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement

Experience in documentation of policies and procedures in support of compliance with industry standards and OSHA requirements

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing, report writing, and presentation

Extensive knowledge of PC and windows-based software, including Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to use SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD

Experience in programming (Python, Matlab, C++ or similar), database development (MySQL, PostgreSQL or similar) and data analysis (Python, JMP or similar) is highly preferred
