  • Troubleshoot and repair laboratory equipment and automation.
  • Perform regularly scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) of laboratory equipment and automation.
  • Carefully document observations made and work performed during repairs and PM's.
  • Respond to critical equipment issues after hours when scheduled for on-call support.
  • Communicate with internal equipment users to troubleshoot and repair complex and/or intermittent problems.

  • Experience with laboratory equipment from Tecan, Hamilton, Beckman, Brooks, Agilent, etc. is a plus.
  • Self-motivated with practical knowledge and experience repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex, computer-controlled automation and standalone equipment in the laboratory.
  • Excellent understanding of servo motors, electronics, pneumatics and pumps.
  • Experience troubleshooting complicated electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Attention to detail and the ability for abstract thinking.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good computer literacy and comfort with Microsoft operating systems.
  • Ability to seek out information or expertise needed while addressing problems.
  • The willingness to work and contribute within a close group as well as independently is required.
  • Lifting Requirements - medium work or exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pound of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force consistently.

Physical & Lifting Requirements
  • Physical Requirements - stationary positioning, moving, operating, ascending/descending, communicating, observing, reaching and repetitive motion.
  • Use of equipment and tools necessary to perform essential job functions.
  • Hazards and Atmospheric Conditions - exposure to fumes, dust, extreme temperatures, wet and/or humid, noise, vibration, mists or gases, mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, electrical hazards and radiant energy hazards. OSHA category II - normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue, but exposure or potential for exposure may occur.
