DESCRIPTION

The Innovative Genomics Institute at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Krasileva Lab, in the area of protein engineering, at 100% time with an expected start date of early 2020.

Krasileva lab studies fundamental principles of plant immunity, genome evolution and plant-pathogen interactions. We are looking for a postdoctoral scientist with strong expertise in protein biochemistry and yeast genetics who will share our research passion and will be motivated to make discoveries in the area of rational design of plant immune receptors.

The postdoc will closely work with the PI and other lab members, as well as external collaborators, including Innovative Genome Institute (https://www.igi.org) and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (https://www.lbl.gov).

Responsibilities:

The candidate in this role will be responsible for developing specific experiments within the overall research plan, delivering research outputs within the timeline of the project, including protocols, figures and publications.

The project involves designing and producing synthetic plant receptors, as well as designing libraries for screening engineered proteins for new binding specificities. The designed receptors will often need to go through several rounds of design, test, build incorporating knowledge of their natural variation and structural constraints.

The candidate is expected to be technically proficient in their area of expertise that can include protein biochemistry, protein engineering, synthetic biology, yeast genetics and to be prepared to develop and adapt novel wet-lab and/or bioinformatics techniques. All members of the lab are expected to maintain a legible, organized, and fully-updated electronic lab notebook shared with the PI, mentors and collaborators within the lab. As part of larger collaboration, the postdoc is also expected to coordinate and align research activities with overall team, present regularly at lab meeting, and provide first draft of manuscripts.
