We are seeking a full-time Product Owner to work on our Automotive infotainment team at our Headquarters location in the Kansas City area. In this role, you will direct and coordinate activities for software development for a feature, product, or family of products using Agile methodology. Other essential functions include:

  • Responsible for managing agile SW development, working closely with Software Engineers, Software Project Managers, and/or Software Quality Engineers with diverse capability levels in the design of new products and/or features, enhancement of existing designs, and development of test procedures    

  • Coordinate and participate in generating software requirements and designs for a feature, product, or family of products in accordance with Garmin’s software development methodology

  • Understanding of SW concepts and being able to understand SW architecture concepts

  • Participate in software design reviews as necessary, assuring proper attendees and proper coverage of topics, imparting lessons learned and good design practices to all who attend

  • Create product development plans as directed by engineering management

  • Ensure the team meets overall development goals in accordance with the product development plan or market requirements and ensure project milestones are met

  • Monitor progress of the software teams in meeting product/feature requirements and schedule compliance through official and unofficial reports

  • Set the tone for the team environment and build healthy team relationships

  • Develop schedule and release milestones based on overall product schedule that meets customer delivery expectations

  • Support customer and internal management communication regarding overall development progress and issues/risks

  • Ability to associate SW works packages with Customer Use cases and negotiate schedules based on higher level use cases that don’t define SW packages.

  • Experience working on an Agile SW team in some capacity in the past  

  • Develop strong relationships with the customer as well as internal development teams.

  • JIRA Expertise

  • Some Travel Required

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelors of Science Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, OR a minimum of ten years work experience performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description. Other qualifications include:

  • Strong sense of urgency and flexibility

  • Must demonstrate proficiency in the Agile Software Development Life Cycle as well as using JIRA

  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others under challenging circumstances

  • Must understand Garmin’s software development methodology

  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)

  • Ability to travel up to 15% 


  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO)

  • Embedded software development Expertise

  • Expertise with JAMA, or any other requirements gathering tool

  • Automotive OEM experience with either automotive manufacturer or tier 1 or 2 supplier
