Cherokee Nation Strategic Programs (CNSP) is positioned to directly contribute to the Department of Homelands Security (DHS) Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) Office Policy, Plans and Analysis directorate and the National Biosurveillance Integration Center (NBIC). NBIC integrates, analyzes, and distributes key information about health and disease events to help ensure the nation's responses are well-informed, save lives, and minimize economic impact. We are seeking a Biosurveillance Innovation Applied Scientist to support the development of new approaches, systems, and algorithms for NBIC's operational development projects.


Researches new biosurveillance technical approaches for application in national biosurveillance. Develops and incorporates novel algorithms and methods for complex, large-scale biosurveillance data analysis in coordination with operational/analytic end-users. Provides technical advice and analytic support to the management of external pilot projects developing new systems, algorithms, and technical approaches for biosurveillance.

Must have experience developing, or evaluating the development of; systems, algorithms, and approaches for complex large-scale data analysis across a range of different types of data.

  • Education: BS/ MS degree in natural or physical sciences, engineering, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or related fields
  • Must have a Bachelor's degree and 3 years of experience, or a Master's Degree and 2 years of experience
  • Qualifying experience must be in the natural or physical sciences, engineering, computer science, mathematics, statistics, informatics, or related fields
  • Experience with modelling and simulation
  • Strong written and oral communication skills


  • Current DoD security clearance (preferred)
  • Ability to obtain Public Trust required
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office software (MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint)
  • Technical skills to conduct analyses, write reports, prepare briefings, and coherently present results
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to collaborate with others on projects and investigations but also work independently when needed
