Job Description:

The E.W. Scripps station KXLF Montana's News Leader in Butte, Montana is hiring a Multimedia Journalist / Sports Reporter. This person will be responsible for researching, writing, capturing visual content and editing stories for multiple platforms. This person will also cover sports leads and news.

Key Activities


  • Gathers and verifies factual information for stories through interviews, observation and research. 

  • Write news content for multiple platforms, including posting stories on the Internet Edits, or assists in editing, videos for all multimedia platforms.

  • Generates creative story ideas daily based on the station’s brand and strategic plan. 

  • Writes, edits and organizes stories for live reports, taped interviews or online.

  • Works cooperatively with photographer on assignment.

  • Edits video and posts stories on multimedia platforms

  • Receives assignment or evaluates sports leads and news tips to develop story ideas.

  • Organizes material, determines slant or emphasis, and writes story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.

  • Shoots video and still photos to illustrate stories.
     

Skills

Education & Experience/Certifications


  • Bachelor's degree preferred

  • 1 - 3 years experience
     

Skills & Abilities


  • Computer literate, including newsroom computer systems

  • Videography and non-linear editing experience

  • Edit video on Final Cut Pro editing systems, or similar equipment.

  • Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills

  • Proficient at posting content to various platforms

  • Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment

Work Environment


  • Employees work outdoors and may not be protected from weather conditions.

  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required. In addition, proof of insurance and liability coverage may be required.
