Conrad Yelvington Distributors, a CRH company, supplies and distributes aggregate materials such as granite, river gravel, limestone, natural sand, and more. This rail served aggregate distribution network covers Florida, Southern Mississippi, South Carolina, and Alabama.

 



Position Overview

 

The Director is responsible for overseeing the daily activities of multiple crushing facilities and the Quarry Managers/Forepersons within their designated area.  Duties are performed under limited supervision.  The Director will be competent in all aspects of mining and will travel to each of the necessary facilities on a regular basis and as often as necessary.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

 


  • Oversee and direct all operations at crushing facilities within the region.

  • Ensure that all operations are in full compliance with federal and state regulations, including MSHA, DEP, etc.

  • Cost responsibility at crushing facilities.  Strive to lower cost and increase productivity through efficiency and innovations.

  • Conduct monthly meetings with Quarry Managers to review controllable variable costs, inventories, production schedules, employee issues, etc.

  • Assist VP with annual fall budget process for the next season.

  • Conduct monthly aggregate forecast with Quarry Managers using PEAK and the demand forecast tools.

  • Maintain accurate inventory control.

  • Actively participate in AMAT performance committees; participation with the pertinent State/Technical Trade Association committees.

  • Assist with exploration of aggregate reserves and quarry development.

  • Work with Procurement on group purchasing initiatives.

  • Ensure proper placement of resources, including people and equipment.

  • Work with Quarry Managers and VP to develop a comprehensive maintenance program for the facility.

  • Work closely with EH&S Manager on existing regulations, changes to facility parameters and future CAPEX projects.

  • Work closely with Contracts Administrator on independent contractor agreements.

  • Work with other regional personnel (equipment, administration, delivery, construction, & sales staff) to maximize profits and minimize conflicts.

  • Maintain strong customer and supplier relationships.

  • Adhere to any and all state and federal regulations, if applicable, as set forth by the US Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), or any other regulatory agency.

  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.

  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

 


  • Assist with interviewing and hiring process as necessary.

  • Planning, assigning, and directing work.

  • Willingness to develop subordinates’ technical and leadership skills and make recommendations for new job opportunities when appropriate.

  • Effective management of employee performance through coaching, feedback (written and verbal), rewards, and discipline when necessary.

  • Appraising performance, including annual evaluations and new employee 90-day evaluations.

  • Addressing complaints and resolving problems in a timely manner.

  • Lead by example.

  • Ability to get work done through others using effective delegation, scheduling, and time management practices.

  • Enforce company policies, procedures and work rules; discipline when necessary and document all employee performance issues.

  • Enforce company safety rules and conduct safety meetings, including tool box talks; ensure facilities are operating in a safe manner.

 

Qualifications

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education/Experience

 


  • Bachelor’s degree, Mining Degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; five or more years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

General Requirements

 


  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and qualify to be enrolled in our vehicle reimbursement program. 

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

 


  • Must possess and have working knowledge to complete necessary mathematical calculations.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to use a computer to communicate and analyze data.  This includes but is not limited to the use of Outlook, MS Office programs, construction software and web-based programs.

  • Be familiar with all roles, equipment, and tasks associated with your project(s) and have the ability and willingness to fill in on any role or task as necessary.

  • Working knowledge of all applicable regulations (including MSHA and OSHA) affecting crusher production, safety, environmental, state, federal, and company policies; ensure observance and compliance of such regulations.

The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
