I.Job Summary:

This position will assist the Manager, Accounting, in the day-to-day work for federal, state and local income and transaction tax reporting and the related tax accounting. Duties will include providing support for outside tax advisors in the preparation of federal, state and local income and transaction tax provisions and compliance. Gather data, prepare analyses, coordinate with tax advisors, research issues, review quarterly income tax provision work papers, generate tax-related journal entries, reconcile tax accounts and prepare/review monthly, quarterly and annual income and transaction tax compliance. Research tax questions and issues and recommend appropriate tax positions and elections. In addition, this position will assist in working with the income tax depreciation system on coding and maintenance of income tax depreciation methodologies, calculations and forecasts. Other duties are expected to include benefit plan reporting and assisting with documenting the Tax Department's processes, procedures and control matrix under SOX 404 and subsequent audit activity. 

II.Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential:

a.Coordinate the gathering of income tax related records and documentation for submission to the tax advisors to support the income tax provision computations and the income tax compliance preparation. Field questions from tax advisors and communicate with appropriate internal personnel to resolve issues, etc.

b.Assist in developing and establishing a process to capture and document information to support the quarterly income tax footnotes for the 10Qs and the 10K.

c.Monitor new accounts, transactions, events, etc., to ensure that income and transaction tax impacts/ramifications are identified, researched, documented, and communicated to senior management and outside tax advisors as appropriate.

d.Assist with maintaining income tax depreciation records within fixed asset system.

e.Remain current on industry and tax accounting trends that impact the job areas; monitor tax accounting policy issues related to the Company particularly federal, state and local income and transaction tax requirements. Provide guidance and support to other areas of Accounting and the Company where appropriate.

f.Manage transaction tax audit activity.

g.Observes company safety procedures at all times.

h.Stewardship of the brand to include embodiment of the Shentel Way by ensuring appropriate use of the brand (name, logo, company, appearance, and attitude) within their respective team and organization.

Non-Essential:

a.Coordinate preparation of estimated federal, state and local income tax payments as needed with the tax advisors.

b.Manage the preparation of all federal, state and local transaction tax payments, regulatory filings and transaction tax audit correspondence.

c.Support the Accounting Department in other areas, as appropriate, and other projects, as assigned.

d.Identify improvements in reporting and disclosure for internal and external purposes.

e.Responsible for following, supporting and enforcing all internal control processes and procedures.

III.Qualification Requirements:

a.Education: Four year degree in Accounting required.

b.Experience: Five plus years of income and transaction tax accounting and compliance experience required.

c.Skills Summary: Must be able to understand complex, technical and analytical writing. Must have ability to interpret and communicate complex tax and tax-related accounting issues.

d.Licenses or Certifications: CPA or equivalent tax qualification strongly desired.

e.Special Requirements: Ability to multi-task and support a growing Company and interface across multiple disciplines.

IV.Knowledge:

a.Experience with accounting tools including G/L systems, spreadsheets, databases and Microsoft Office.

b.Experience with tax research, income tax compliance, income tax provision and fixed asset software systems desirable.

c.Experience researching complex tax and accounting regulations.
