Job Summary : This position is responsible for providing leadership in manufacturing excellence, ensuring customer satisfaction and continuous improvement of responsible areas' performance measurements (quality, productivity, cycle time, delivery and cash flow). Supervises and coordinates activities of team leaders and workers engaged in production. Establishes and coordinates departmental activities to meet objectives to coincide with plant goals and business metrics.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities :


  • Follows all Howmet's safety regulations, work rules/instructions and all departmental specific requirements.
  • Examines castings and products at various stages of processing procedures for conformance to both internal and external specifications.
  • Understands constraint management, OEE and applies techniques that exploit constraints to improve OEE.
  • Creates a team culture of safety compliance and awareness.
  • Assigns work to meet production schedules.
  • Conducts capacity analysis to drive standard work and ensure accuracy of standards.
  • Develops and implements strategic plans, team goals and objectives that align with BU objectives.
  • Understands, develops and implements Daily Management techniques and methodologies to facilitate attainment of business objectives for areas of responsibility
  • Provides leadership and drives continuous improvement (lean manufacturing, i.e. reduce WIP and cycle times) and efficiencies related to production methods and output, equipment performance, and product quality.
  • Studies production schedules and estimates labor hour requirements for completion of jobs; calculates, tracks labor utilization and implements method improvements to reduce labor content.
  • Drives cost reductions to improve profitability.
  • Analyzes and resolves work issues, assists workers in solving work problems through data analysis, six sigma, and other accepted business problem solving methodologies.
  • Records and maintains measurements and data regarding departmental performance and creates solutions via analytical approach to data.
  • Creates an environment that fosters employee engagement.
  • Maintains time and production records.
  • Collaborates with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
  • Makes employment related decisions such as hiring, training, disciplinary actions, terminations, etc.
  • Completes performance evaluations for direct reports.
  • Must comply with all company attendance policies and guidelines; this includes, but is not limited to, regular attendance and occasional overtime.
  • Maintains an excellent attendance record - responsible for 24/7 operations.

  • Reads and interprets documents such as EHS policies, operating and maintenance instructions, and work activity instructions.

  • Ability to perform mathematical computations to include fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to develop and interpret bar graphs and other visual diagrams.

Physical Demands :

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. Work Environment :

This is a typical industrial/manufacturing environment. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to include but no limited to safety glasses, steel-toe shoes and earplugs are required. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles within the confines of the manufacturing areas. The employee is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. Occasionally the employee is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • Education : This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Business or other related Technical field or equivalent.
  • Experience : This position requires a minimum of three-years related experience and/or training. Experience with Lean, Six Sigma techniques and other approved continuous improvement tools/methodologies in a manufacturing setting preferred.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
