The Principal Mechanical engineer helps establish
- Mentoring practices within the mechanical engineering organization
- Mechanical and electro-mechanical subsystem architecture standards
- Product performance expectations and acceptance criteria
- Risk and opportunity management criteria and thresholds.
- Validation and verification strategy and tactics

The Principle Mechanical engineer leads reviews that
- Approve engineering analyses and risk mitigation plans and strategies
- Approve subsystem design and development activities for safety, reliability, supportability, sustainability, maintainability, upgradability, architectural consistency and design consistency
- Approve design activities for new and untested technologies or that adapt adjacent applications
- Oversees product development risk management

Minimum:
- 10 yrs technical leadership experience defining projects, schedules, and costs with span across functions including mentoring junior level engineers
- Bachelor's degree of Science from an accredited university in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering with over 14 years' experience or over 12 years' experience with a Master's degree
- Hands-on experience constructing mechanical prototypes utilizing composites, rapid-prototyping methods and equipment
- High degree of comfort with ambiguity in early-phase investigative projects
- Proficiency in the use of analytical and CAD tools such as finite element analysis methods, computational fluid dynamics and other simulation tools for the design of mechanical structures
- Thorough understanding of fundamental mechanical engineering principles
- Knowledge of statistical techniques and utilization of design of experiments

Preferred:
- Experience with Military type / FAA / EASA certification
- Understanding of aerospace standards, eg AS9100, ASME, NADCAP, NAFEMS, etc.
- Experience designing, developing, and productizing small unmanned/manned aircraft
