Location of role: Mount Olive, New Jersey

 

This newly created role is part of a wider Corporate Tax initiative to enhance our strategic and proactive corporate tax planning and tax integration capabilities, and to continue to generate cash tax savings for the organization.

 

This associate is responsible for supporting the development, evaluation, and execution of global tax planning initiatives given their tax technical expertise and in-depth knowledge of US and international taxation.  Further, this associate is responsible for supporting the M&A and Integration activities for the Corporate Tax Team, financial & tax modeling for the US income tax implications (including US FTC impacts) of global tax planning strategies, and supporting the local In-Country Tax & Treasury teams (ICTCs), in line with our global tax principles, policies and strategies. 

 

What are we looking for?


  • Minimum of 5 years of combined tax experience in a large public corporate environment and public accounting experience with a Big 4 accounting firm required

  • Comprehension of business issues and ability to accurately document relevant facts; feel comfortable with financial information

  • Self- driven and comfortable interacting and collaboration at various levels of the organization (Global Tax, local CFOs, lawyers, Global advisors, etc.).

  • Undergraduate degree in taxation, accounting, or related area.

  • CPA and/or JD/LLM required Knowledge/Skills

  • Demonstrated technical competency in ASC 740, a broad knowledge of US international, US federal and state taxation, knowledge of U.S. GAAP as it pertains to the tax aspects of published financial statements, as well as a general knowledge of tax compliance software is required in this role

  • Demonstrated technical competency in international aspects of U.S. income taxation

 

What would be your key responsibilities?


  • Works with the Global Tax Planning team to support the development & execution of corporate tax strategies in key tax areas including International, US Federal & local state income tax planning, transfer pricing, and indirect taxes (e.g., Sales & Use taxes).

  • Works with the International Tax Senior Manager to assess and model the US and local income tax impacts for global tax planning initiatives (e.g., US FTC modelling)

  • Supports & collaborates with the recently acquired businesses to ensure the effective integration of these businesses into the broader Mars tax organization and operations

  • Supports the corporate tax integration, including all US tax and local ICTC tax reporting requirements, for all recently acquired 

  • businesses, globally

  • Works with other corporate tax associates, including the Global Tax Planning Director, to develop, implement, and enforce global corporate tax activities and practices in US & local tax compliance (including transfer pricing), tax controversy and tax planning areas.

  • Independently undertakes effective US & international tax planning activities (by managing and executing opportunities) to provide legal methods to reduce or minimize Mars, Inc.’s overall tax liability

  • Undertakes, manages and executes other special or global tax projects, including M&A and tax due diligence, as requested by the Global Tax team

  • Directly interfaces with local Business Units & ICTCs to provide support and technical expertise in the US tax area 

  • Provides local (& US) tax technical training and practical guidance to Global, Regional and local associates, and very importantly, to our recently acquired businesses

  • Utilizes digital and electronic tools (and best practices) to maximize efficiency of tax planning processes (including systems and documentation collection)

  • Maintains US & local tax technical knowledge and timely informs global tax team members of potential tax impacts and mitigation options
